Won't say I make a living of it, but I do get hired every now and then for media project audio, music, and sound design.

I live by my music... in a cold dark hole eating macoroni and cheese and drinking the cheapest generic pop. Everytime I light a match to see what time it is, I keep seeing this etching of 'Motley Crue was here!' So I keep hoping....and playing. ;)

the ebola or the flu...what kind of illness does the pro's have? :?
Is this what is meant by "you be illin" or "that's ill", that it means pro? :P :P

Like most people who have been hobbiest musicians for a while, I've gotten paid for a few minor jobs. For the most part, my "pro" work involves scoring music for animation and videos I produce at my job... and I really don't get paid for that beyond my normal salary and the pleasure of tinkering around at home for a while. So while I've had my music featured in TV commercials and various videos, I hardly consider myself "pro".

I got into electronic music 20 years ago, because it was a fun hobby which interested me. There was no option to get all my gear free. At latest count, I believe I've spent upwards of $60,000 on gear. And I don't regret a bit of it, except maybe a few items purchased during the dark digital days of the post-analog 1980s.
Incomplete list of my gear: 1/8" audio input jack.

Music and the music industry accounts for 100% of my income. I'm not mega-rich but I'm not starving either.

And I DO have a Virus.

Seriously though, if you want to "do it for a living", you have to invest in your craft. Whether that's a time-commitment or a massive credit-card debt, that's up to you. :D

I used to teach music for a living, taken a year off though.

Get the few odd jobs each year, mostly live sound or recording related... but I like the fact that my music isn't my income anymore. Used to be so drained after work that I don't think I did "my music" for the four years I was teaching.
I play guitar
