Ozone Pro - iZotope go subscription

I left Waves too... and iZotope last year. Despite the software being mostly good, it always felt bloated and slow to me. I have FabFilter, and like, I know this doesn't mean anything, but their full bundle install is like 50mb or something crazy. There's efficiency there, that I appreciate. The only thing I missed was the iZo Imager, and meh, I don't really need it - I have the free one from Polyverse (Widener), and yeah it's not multiband, but that's easy enough to remedy.
The past few years, I've really had upgradeability and maintainability in mind - how easy is it to re-install/keep/maintain. And so most of my software is serial CR'd, with a few C/R ones... I feel comfy with NI for that stuff.

Hopefully you can buy the regular plugins and updates without the need to subscribe. Every subscription adds to what you have and the pandemic should have shown what can happen when you can´t pay anymore and loose all of them. I hated this model from the beginning and lately when having to reinstall my mac noticed i can´t install adobe anymore as my system is too old. my new machine is waiting but too much work to change at the moment. so one more point to avoid further subscriptions. It´s a bit like political elections. You choose and then you´re f...ed.

Just a reminder, because I keep seeing the same question asked, Izotope does say on their website that they are NOT going to 100% subscription model.
Just that they have one, and "new" products are coming for those who subscribe.
My issue that most "subscription only" developers start out with the same 2 promises.

Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, and even Deezer, whatever the hell Deezer is.

I don't get it.
I can get Ozone plus a bunch of stuff for $150. I can get all iZotope software (in MPS) for like $200 or whatever it Was. Why would I go subscription for just Ozone when I can get Ozone plus a bunch of stuff for the price of six months of just subscription to Ozone? I mean, love it or hate it but with Plugin Alliance at least economics make sense. Here, not so much.
What am I missing?

I don't know what to write here that won't be censored, as I can only speak in profanity.

the silver lining to so many of the big devs going subscription is that it leaves the door wide open for indie devs to sell everyone the good old fashioned individual licenses that they actually want.

I propose to governments to start applying a food subscription, plus citizenship subscription, also a human rights subscription with FREE!!! Well Being lectures on demand. Plus stronger countries can start a peace subscription model for weaker countries.
Don’t let me start on religions.

I just want to add that I think subscriptions are only worth for purposes of offering a cheaper way to license something, plus letting a rent to own option.
Also with a subscription, companies should offer really useful improvements or material in response to every months payment schedule and I’m not taking about video tutorials and such.
The only worthwhile subs that I find fair at the moment are PA’s offerings (although I’m not a big fun of their recent offerings quality wise) and something like splice I would say.

Someone will probably prove me wrong, but I can't think of any developer who has introduced a subs option first, and then made it compulsory later.MissOptimyst wrote: Mon Mar 08, 2021 6:07 pmThis is very lame. I love Izotope, have even called myself a “fangirl”, and own all of their software. Their plugins are used in all of my songs. I’m so disappointed to hear this. I left Waves after learning about WUP and this sounds as bad if not worse...
So far I'm pretty relaxed. They're still doing sales on their regular products, hopefully this is just another option that most of us can safely ignore.

Welp, I guess I'm not buying another Izotope plugin. I love Ozone, but this seriously sucks. So much so I will probably have to look elsewhere for reliable support and long-term use. This says everything about their business model and is probably just a taste for things to come, which is why I opt out of this.

No need to jump the gun. They haven't announced subscription-only yet. Till then, hang tight.crickey13 wrote: Tue Mar 09, 2021 12:24 pm Welp, I guess I'm not buying another Izotope plugin. Exactly. They will just bump prices of their plugins even higher to justify the price of the subscription + even more crazy updates costs for upgrades + late updates and/or missing features that will exist in Pro versions.
Nothing to worry about
