''As for the non-linear version... this is a different story for a different set of articles. If you can't wait for a solution, google "Newton's method for vectorial equations". It's a bit more difficult than the linear case, but then, it's also entirely possible!''

Yes. So at the end of it I am not sure though if he is saying he did it (in Diva for instance, and just hasn't gone into how in this article) or that he knows how to do it but hasn't done it yet.......the non-linear case
A completely different matter is a non-linear equation like this, which is typical for analogue filter models:
The Vadim paper goes into nonlinear filter solutions too.

Good news @everyone! A new version is now live for your consideration. Version 1.8.15
The biggest improvement in this version is the brand new Nonlinear Filter effect, bringing some dirty nasty colored filtering to your pristine spectra. As usual there is also a bunch of bug fixes, and also possibly some new bugs for you to discover as well. Have fun!
General
- Made drop downs in snapins drop down and out of the snapin frame, instead of being confined to the bounds of the snapin UI.
- Made UI scale carry over to popup windows, like the wavetable browser.
- Made it possible to drop banks on Snap Heap and Multipass to install.
- Made the remembered file type in save dialog actually work.
- Improved naming of parameter names visible to the DAW to avoid ambiguities.
- Made most places showing the plugin name include the "kHs" prefix to make names less generic.
- Added support for decimal comma in value parsing.
- Reworked snapin loading, removing additional load times when starting up.
- Fixed problems with warnings & errors on load on some macOS versions.
Ensemble
- Now reports the correct latency value to the DAW.
Nonlinear Filter
- New effect plugin! (VST/AAX/AU/Snapin)

I get it a tiny bit cheaper as an upgrade to Ultimate Toolbox or whatever its called, although weirdly it was 1E cheaper to upgrade Toolbox Professional and get it! Weird!!
I don't mind chucking Kilohearts a fiver every now and again to add a tool o the box and keep the development ticking over, although I would also like to see it (and ladder) as a generator, maybe that will come latter....

I mean, I'm happy about more filters of course, but why snap-in only? Just to sell it? Phase Plant desperately needs more filter models in the generator section, I don't really understand the issue here. Curious what the update will bring.

For anyone interested I think it is a really interesting and versatile filter and I have been able to get some really unique tones from it (and some nice classic analogue filter sounds with the warm setting). The first filter I will be using as an FX on other synths!
A great big
from me...and we have more to come for Phase Plant....as was mentioned, this is just a general little update primarily to facilitate the new snap....I recon we need PP 1.9 or even 2 to get the good stuff

I would have also liked to see it share the same snapin as Ladder Filter as a “retro snap-in”, but yeah, the more that goes into generator section, the better. Or bringing audiorate modulation to snap-ins, but, I’m no programmer

Slightly different slope/shape but a similar sound....the other 8 modes are far more interesting!Buckster wrote: Wed Mar 10, 2021 6:44 pm Is the non linear clean filter effectively same as the current "filter" available also as a snapin ?

Audio rate modulation, per per-voice modulation without CPU heavy poly mode and placing different filters after different oscillators without unnecessary and limited fx routing. All the filters need to be able to go into the generator section. Filters are the no. 1 complaint I always read about regarding this synth. I really don't understand - everything is there, it just seems like such a no brainer to me. I can only assume that it's part of the PP update, but then it might interfere with the pricing scheme?E_Anderson wrote: Wed Mar 10, 2021 6:57 pm Something something audiorate modulation

I do agree that it would be nice if we could have audio rate modulation for the snap-ins. Maybe in addition to the Poly button, we could have an HD setting per lane that would enable audio rate modulation of fx at the cost of higher CPU usage. Dune 3 does it basically.
Granular is all fine and good, but this is not what's making Phase Plant unique imo. I'd much prefer they build on the strengths that sets it apart from others with audio rate modulation, improved mod sources and extended midi tools and crazy and intuitive semi-modular routing options.

Got you thanks for the replyBuckster wrote: Wed Mar 10, 2021 6:44 pm Is the non linear clean filter effectively same as the current "filter" available also as a snapin ?
I bought multipass the other day in the sale and even though I only have about 9 of the snapins it sounds superb and is so easy to use
I'll buy this non linear filter as will be really useful in multipass. I nearly bought "filter" the other day for same price
I can highly highly recommend multipass - I was sitting on the fence as I have Byome and Zebrify - but I find multipass so easy to use and visually see what's going on

So is this new filter part of the professional toolbox...? I'm confused as to how the system works; if a new snapin becomes part of a current toolbox bundle does that mean it is free for already existing owners of that bundle?
Every day takes figuring out all over again how to f#ckin’ live.
