Has anyone used the saved profiles for eq matching (i.e. between reference and target tracks)? Does it work that way? Thanks

Never had problems with the Ilok system. Having 2 physical Iloks since 3 years.
I do not advise to use the soft Ilok option, since it can become quite annoying to contact each developer when an activation is lost (eg. due to pc failure). With physical Ilok you can easily move the activations, or leave them forever plugged into a back usb, even when reformatting/installing/upgrading hardware.
As far as I understood, sonible also uses Ilok to check their files for consistency (probably to protect against cracking/modifying their plugins).

I like the new approach with the different instrument profiles.
I wish there were profiles for drum overheads and male/female vocals though. Maybe they'll add them in an update.

I've got a question for people who have been using this:
Are you using it over an entire mix? If so - are you using different "states" for different sections?
I've found that it's using a little bit different settings for different sections, but it doesn't sound good when switching from one "state" to the next. too many (albeit small) changes.
I find that I need to tweak the eq bands when switching from one state to another - but the "state" doesn't store the eq band settings, so the eq node settings would need to be automated - which seems like a bit much.
So, I've been playing around with just "learning" in different sections of the song - figuring that this might give a "conglamorate" setting. This sounds OK, and each section sounds a little clearer, compared to bypassing smart:eq 2. It does seem to open things up and let different parts "breathe".
I think this way is working best for me - but I'm just wondering how other people are working with this. Are you using it on individual tracks rather than across the whole mix?

Well, I like it on the whole mix, but I wish we could get some more information on how adjusting the eq points affects the "learning", and what exactly is being stored as part of a profile.
I'll write an email to support - and see what they say (and share it here if I find anything out)

I'm posting this for those who are looking for more detailed information about Sonible's licensing protocol.
License transfers are manually done. Just email them directly with the new person's registered email address. They can get an account by signing up to the Sonible Store.
Turnaround for license transfers range from same day to the next weekday.
This is already explained on their website but in brief, you have two ways to activate your two licenses per product. One is by machine-ID and the other is via iLok. If you want to remove the license on the computer that you activated, you need to email them. e.g., you want to move your license to another computer. To use iLok, you can have Sonible deposit 1 activation to your iLok account and you have to use a dongle for it, according to them.
If you want to remove the license from the iLok, you have to contact them. So, in the case that you want to transfer your license to someone but 1 license is in your iLok account; you have to email them.
If you have a license already on your machine and ask them to deposit 1 of the 2 licenses to your iLok and you activate it to your dongle, the next time you start a new project and load the plugin, it will take a moment to load but it will say that the license was found on your iLok in the settings of the plugin.
They are currently working on (as of July 31, 2019), a self-service licensing system that includes iLok management. No details on it yet but I surmise it will be a service that you can use by logging into their website.
Of course, any of this can change, but this is what I know to be true now, per their support representative from a detailed email I received.
By the way, if you received a free license from Plugin Boutique for Sonible's Proximity EQ. That license CANNOT be transferred to iLok. In fact, according to them, it's a temporally unrestricted license that you can activate on up to, two machines. I'm sure you can probably just email them if you have to install it a third time but considering it's time-based, if it truly is a temporal license, then the day you wipe your system or upgrade it, is the day you lose that license, that is, if you used both activations by that time. I guess it's like those Give-Away-of-the-Day softwares. You get a disposable license. Once you install the software it runs indefinitely until you reformat the hard drive. Probably same thing applies here. So, if you have that Proximity EQ...activate with care.
