If one has FF ProQ3, does one really need other EQs?

So right now I'm considering buying bx_digital V3 (for a cheaper price) for mastering purposes. I got an "exclusive" offer from Softube themselves for Weiss EQ MP (intriguing, but not as cheap or interesting imo as bx_digital)

Now do I really need either of them? I mean I like the analog layout of bx_digital and its controls. also its got some cool stereo/mono functionality -- but I feel like I could probably cover everything bx_digital can do with ProQ3. As with Weiss EQ MP, well it just seems like ProQ3 with a different skin.

Help talk me in/out of buying these guys. interested in third perspectives and experiences!

lol in all honesty you absolutely do not, I would put my money into instruments, speakers, outboard before hand. Although EQuilibrium is great for mixing.

ProQ is super clean and easy to use. A good coloring EQ would be a nice addition. A dedicated dynamic EQ too since ProQ3 has a dynamic section which works most of the times, but you may need more control.

Agreed, for sure. I haven't checked out EQuilibrium until now and I like that it aligns frequencies with the notes they parallel!

I hear you. what do you usually go to for coloring? Tape emulation or EQ plugin?

it depends. Pro-Q can kinda do it all and then some, so technically, you don't need other EQ's.

however, other EQ's have different workflows that you might prefer, or they have nice preset curves where, instead of aiming that shelf in a way that sounds good, you just turn a knob and get the high boost you wanted without all the fuss of adjusting Q etc.

so, depends on what you're after.

Need? I would say no, you don't NEED another EQ. With Pro-Q3 and whatever bundled EQs you have with your DAW(s), you're probably more than set. But, as mentioned, sometimes having separate EQs for color is good. Personally, I have more than EQs than I can even recall, but I tend to use Pro-Q for 90+% of my needs. I usually find other ways to add color when I want it, but YMMV.

Once you start earning more than 50K a year from sales and/or 100,000 streams a month you need one more EQ. For every subsequent 100,000 increase in streams you get another EQ. When you hit 500,000 streams a month you can choose a reverb instead

For me definetely, but none for the same usecases:
Pro-Q is a very good surgical one for me and also for the final touch up,
but i prefer one which has all knobs for all bands on display all the time for quick and broad strokes. Not for “special sound properties“, but for actual sound shaping with more drastic results (pre-distortion eq-ing for example) as i find that much quicker for such tasks.
For the aforementioned final strokes, i don't need anything else though (but of course you basically don't need Pro-Q either, as for most cases your stock DAW EQ, or much cheaper / free ones do more or less the same)

So do the aforementioned EQ plugins actually inherently alter the sound? I mean I get different compressors or tape emulations "giving color".. but aren't all EQs transparent tools for coloring?
