I can get Ozone plus a bunch of stuff for $150. I can get all iZotope software (in MPS) for like $200 or whatever it Was. Why would I go subscription for just Ozone when I can get Ozone plus a bunch of stuff for the price of six months of just subscription to Ozone? I mean, love it or hate it but with Plugin Alliance at least economics make sense. Here, not so much.

What am I missing?
Looking at their site, it seems like the bit i was missing is that this is a subscription for all of it, not just Ozone :D still, i don't see a valid reason to go subscription as you actually pay more per year than if you just buy the MPS outright.

also, it would've been useful for them to indicate how is "pro" different from "advanced".
I don't know what to write here that won't be censored, as I can only speak in profanity.

I had to look into this, too. Turns out that, at the moment, Pro is no different than the full version...except, you get more "free" content about production techniques.

However, it indicated, over time there would be new improvements added that will differentiate Pro from other versions.

And that's where I got disappointed, because it means more emphasis will be placed on Pro at the expense of the other versions (especially Elements, I imagine, which a ton of people use). I use Standard for their products, and realize they're going to eventually drift into obsolescence with a subscription model.

I could be wrong. But if I am, Izotope would be the first time anyone was wrong about a subscription model disappointing loyal users.

And you're right. Sorry to sound cynical here, but subscription models like this (where you get "everything!") is really a way for a developer to make money off the products that aren't selling as well for them.
Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, and even Deezer, whatever the hell Deezer is.

So I assume the subscription is purely for their higher end products? Like Ozone and RX etc.

I don't use them but I use the likes of Trash, SE2 and Vinyl etc, I guess they carry on as normal ?

it's for all of them presumably, so you'd get Trash etc. with it as well. it sounds like a good deal if you don't know what MPS upgrades are going for these days (what was it, $200 last time?)...

That will be the end of my time with Izotope. Be a shame tbh, I love Trash2 and SE2, but I can live without. I will not be paying subscriptions to anyone unless its rent to own, and even then , I already own the ones I want, so if its pay to update, thats different. We'll see, its all unclear atm, all I see are the more powerful tools on subscription.

Not sure why some want to assume the worst. Must be a sign of the times. They have a Memberships and Subscription FAQ - https://support.izotope.com/hc/en-us/ar ... iption-FAQ

Here are some of the relevant bits:
Can I still purchase a license of Music Production Suite 4 or another existing iZotope product?

Yes! You can still purchase licensed versions of iZotope products from iZotope.com and resellers. However, these products will not receive the same updates and feature enhancements as the products in Music Production Suite Pro or Producers Club.

What happens to my existing iZotope products when I subscribe?

Don’t worry, your existing iZotope products will still be available in your iZotope account. They will also exist as separate plug-ins in your DAW, so you can use those versions at any time.

Can I still buy the plug-in outright to get a license?

You can buy any of our existing products separately if you wish. However, the added benefits of the subscription are exclusive to the subscription.

...for now :) a charitable interpretation of the above is that they mean that once you buy e.g. Ozone 9 you won't get free upgrade to 10, while subscription users would. however, in light of their other comments (about how over time the "pro" version will "differentiate"), i'm not sure if charitable interpretation is the one we should go with.

the problem people have with it is not that it's subscription, it's rather the fact that they admit they're going to lock certain features behind subscription. it remains to be seen what kind of features they're talking about - like, if it's some "cloud presets" thingie or some "integration" with their other "premium" stuff like courses etc., then OK, fair enough, i can live without that crap. but if they mean like actual useful features, then it's a big no-no.

that said, i'm perfectly happy with Ozone/Neutron/Nectar as they are right now, so i guess i'm not missing out either way.

The c**ting auto-links changed the whole f**king meaning in the bit I've put in red. On reading it I thought "Aha, Music Production Suite, I'm OK" as the auto-link didn't extend to the word 'Pro', which is needed for the complete name of the Subscription product that will get the feature updates.

The part about missing features potentially sucks.

Time will tell. As I said on page 1 of this thread, iZotope isn't known for major updates and enhancements between versions -- mostly bug fixes and improvements.

Some fine modest words in this thread. So much to learn to communicate appropriately in a (for me) foreign language...

+1

Normally, discussions here are rather civilized. However, from time to time, some folks need to blow off some steam. Well, so be it… ignored.
