Query about Sforzando and playing free soundfonts with articulations

I've never used soundfonts before but am coming across some quite nice sounding instruments which are free, and think I need to give them a try.
All I want to do (I think) is play the soundfont and access different articulations of it, where they exist.
For example, with a bass guitar that has picked, fingered and slapped sounds I want to be able to use them. I'm thinking here of Unreal Bass which sounds great.It would either be picked, or fingered or slapped all the way through a song, so I guess just one setting?
I've looked briefly at sforzando and it seems easy enough to get a soundfont to play.
But after that it looks like I have to go into text editing and this looks too challenging for someone used to vsts with decent GUIs.
I don't think I want to do anything other than what I have mentioned above.
Is what I am looking to do easy enough in sforzando? I have registered at the Plogue website forum but have not got any response so can't post there.

Sforzando is a player for the .sfz format, that can also import and convert soundfonts (.sf2). Unreal Bass is actually a .sfz format library.

Yes, the .SFZ format is simple and works as a text file containing all the key mapping information that makes the samples playable as a multi-instrument, but that doesn't mean you need to edit the text to switch articulations. You have a misunderstanding there.

As common in many professional libraries (including most Kontakt libraries), Unreal Bass allows you to switch articulations via keyswitch, meaning in the lower octave the keys are used to switch the type of articulation.
