Iow , subscription is the only way to get regular updates
Read it cdm forum ..
Correct.

https://www.izotope.com/en/products/mus ... mpare.html - No free point updates for those with perpetual licenses.

Whether this includes bug fixes is anyones guess. Then again, the CPU optimization for Neutron apparently warranted a whole new version, so probably not.

I don't condone this action, but I more than understand.

got this reply from izotope when asking about updates for perpetual licenses vs subscriptions:
Thanks for reaching out to iZotope Customer Care.

I am sorry for the confusion - All perpetual licenses for products that are not discontinued will continue to receive bug fixes and necessary updates including support for Apple M1.
i replied w/a follow up question so will add that here if/when i get a response.

That's much better than what I've understood from other posts in this thread

In general, company partnerships are often great for entry-level hobbyists and not so great for long-time knowledgeable customers. I fall somewhere in-between. Hopefully they reach out in both directions.

I guess it all boils down to how much of an a$$hole the company wants to be.

Izotope and NI never really have been a$$holes as far as I can tell, at least never to me.

If they are going subscription only for all future products, then OK, I accept it, but if they stop the updates for those with perpetual licenses, then they instantly become a$$holes. But there is no evidence to suggest this is the case.

So I guess time will tell, the rent to own idea is better for me tbh, I hope the splice option continues.

I can feel the rage-disappointment in the thread from here.

So frustrating when you need a place to be angry, but the thing you want to be angry about doesn't exist.

It will just come down to cost if "the shit hits the fan"- is the sub worth it? For Izotope that is a tricky one as the competition is huge, but for NI, there is no competition for Kontakt and its huge amount of fantastic libraries. Not sure what I would pay, but at the moment I update every version and on an annual basis that doesn't cost much at all.
So 100 a year - easy, 200 a year and I would start wanting to see genuine development in the usability

But the confusion did exist! Read again, before you go mongering.

Lol, sounds like a royal excuse, but I do not own any of these licences yet. But I might change my mind when Komplete drops under €500.
:hihi:

Some people seem to be ok with subscription in one form or another. I'd say it is a good idea to clearly reject it in any form just now. I fear a stepwise introduction of subscription, which ends with just subscription one day. Resist the beginnings.
