hi, I have the Akai MPC 2.9 software (no hardware). Is that the same as the free Akai Beats software?
Unfortunately I can't check properly as I can't get the free version right now to check (my ISP seems to be blocking the email for the download link).

MPC software 2.x is a non-free solution that gives you more than the free one. (I have a license myself but do not use it at the moment, so I am unable to check in detail.)
Just take a look here ...
https://www.akaipro.com/mpc-software-2
... and here for MPC Beats ...
https://www.akaipro.com/mpc-beats
I get the impression Akai earn their money by selling expansions to Beats users.

ok, I was thinking that maybe the core was the same but the paid one just has more instruments/ sounds.
I bought the MPC 2.9 software in the KvR auction a while back but have never been able to sort out the account stuff with inmusic, I asked for help on various things and they didn't respond so I've not used it either.

Just obtain an MPC installer somewhere. Version does not matter. Install it. Authorization is via iLok. When starting the software, it offers an update. This is how I did it. They seem to keep the installers under lock and key somehow.

Oddly I could find the MPC software installer easily. I checked and I do have that on my ilok (I'd forgotten it was ilok so thanks for that). It's the Akai Beat I've not been able to get to compare.
I'll probably stick with the paid version then.

I don't think it's been updated to 2.9 to include DrumSynth.
Otherwise I believe it's the same as MPC Software.

well I can't read the manual because I can't download the Akai beat software. I thought someone would know, which they do and have told me.
So thanks and I'm sorted.
