I realize that I like our wind chimes sound better than anything I've come up with.
Not sure what to think.

great idea. Have thought about recording and mangling but beat sounds good too!

Had same kind of epiphany myself, was working on a track and opened window to get some fresh air in the dawn, heard birds singing over my music and realized that I should record and listen to them instead of crap in my DAW.

already did it. slice the sample into beats and then program beats over over it if you are still into pecking away at key strokes. i love the endeavor, but hate the boring process at this point.

Isn't that how it is though? Being your own worst critic
Sometimes its good to say 'f**k it' and just keep going at it if it's fun to do

is it the destination or the trip
The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another's world. It requires profound, purpose‐larger‐than‐the‐self kind of understanding.

I really like this! There's more to this question than is immediately obvious. There is something about the "random" nature of how the tubes collide and how they follow different wind strengths and directions and turbulence. Sounds different and unpredictable every time. Not to mention the overtones and quality of the oscillations. Sounds very pure but also dirty sometimes. I am curious to try to record and use irregular rhythm as the time keeper. Lots of interesting possibilities but i think I like that I'm hearing some kind of pattern driven by natural forces so to speak. There is an essence about it that seems different from computer algorithms I get from software. Or maybe my mind is making the whole thing up. But my mind is a natural force too so that's fine.Michael L wrote: Tue Mar 16, 2021 2:13 amHow about, "What qualities of that sound appeal to me?"killmaster wrote: Mon Mar 15, 2021 11:31 pm I realize that I like our wind chimes sound better than anything I've come up with. Sometimes I imagine shoving my neighbor's windchimes into her ear drums and hitting them with mallets while she tries to sleep at night. Otherwise, windchimes could be cool in EDM, country, rock, experimental--you name it.
Doing nothing is only fun when you have something you are supposed to do.
