Cubase Pro 11

As the title says - all working great last night, opened a session and suddenly I am unable to insert plugs on any tracks even brand new sessions and in sessions that do have insert plugs, I am unable to remove them and can only edit a few?

Normally if I move the mouse cursor over a empty insert slot and click on it I got the drop down menu list on plugs installed but when I try that now some slots will not show this menu and a couple will if I sit here clicking the mouse many times.

In my sessions with plugs already inserted I can not select to remove or change them and I have to double click on them many times to be able to open the plug and work on its parameters.

If I create a new project and insert for example an audio track I am unable to even insert a plug at all even by clicking the mouse many times.

Nothing new has been installed on my machine and it has been working perfectly until today.

I do not have Constrain Delay Compensation turn on and and I am able to load all plugs in Studio One 5 and Pro Tools First so it is certainly a cubase issue.

I am in the middle of important project for a client that needs to be finished in a day or so and right now I can not do a damn thing?

Has anyone any suggestions please?

Have you tried saving and rebooting ?

Applied all the latest updates ?

If that does not work have you tried disabling your preference file by holding ctrl-alt-shift while Cubase launches ? (after backing everything up of course).

Other than that I have no idea and it sounds like a bug in Cubase 11.

Maybe it's for the better?
Have you tried Bitwig or Reaper?

Hi.

Yes I have tried saving the project, both to its existing location and a brand new on on a different drive which made no difference.

This isssue affects all of my project files, including ones finished months ago, the current one and any new ones I try and make.

I have also tried ctrl-alt-shift while cubase boots and also disabling all 3rd party plugs but it made no difference.

I also Copied the whole of the Steinberg folder from "Appdata"/roaming/Steinberg to an external HD then deleted it from Appdata and then allowed Cubase to rebuild it but again the result is the same.

When you say "all the latest updates" what do you mean?
All of my computer drivers are up to date, things like graphics, system (memory, graphics etc) and audio interface. I updated all of these about six weeks ago and I have used Cubase every day since then without any issue.

I am not aware of any updates to Cubase 11 Pro though.

Have you applied January 2021 Cubase Pro 11.0.10 update ?
Other than that what else is there but a re-install after saving all your data to another drive ?
Are you on Mac or Windows by the way ?
Did you try deleting all the paths to VST folders and then rebooting ?
You might also try temporarily removing or renaming all VST folders.

Hi dellboy. Thanks for that, I was not aware of it. Downloading now. :)

Make sure all the other Steinberg VSTs , Retrologue etc are up to date as well. I read that fixed someone's weird issues as well.

I just did a windows system restore to a restore point created last week but the issues still remain.

I also renamed all of my VST plugin locations to .old but the issues remain - including Steinbergs own stock plugins.
I really can not see it is an issue with my plugins (I might be wrong) as I can open them all with out issue in Studio One 5, Pro Tools First and Sound Forge. My plugs are all legit, Waves, Fabfilter, NI Kontakt, SoundToys, Celemony and Battery so nothing exotic. Everything has been working fine for well over a year.

My Cubase 11 Pro was an upgrade from Cubase Elements 10.5 and the 10.5 directory remains on my machine including the 10.5 exe so I was able to open 10.5 and the issues still happen in 10.5.

I have just reinstalled Cubase Elements 10.5, then the Cubase 11 Pro Upgrade but the issues still remain so I dont know what else to do.

Yes I updated the steinberg things, only Groolve agent and retrolog have updates

Only think i would suggest you try you sort of indirectly did already. Move the cubase 11 preference folder to ur desktop forcing it to reimport or rebuild it.

Is there any reason that you cannot delete evrything and reinstall with the full Cubase 11 20 GB download ? After all, you have the full Cubase 11 licence on the dongle. It might be the only option you have left.

You have not said if you are on Windows or Mac, but I was also wondering if the Microsoft March 21st patch Tuesday update affected your machine, but I see you are not on the internet.

I'd say that it looks like some kind of physical issue with your hardware, as you say it happens even after restoring Windows to an older point or opening previous versions of Cubase. Maybe the Syncrosoft USB dongle is malfunctioning?

Post

I think if the dongle wasn't functioning he couldn't even open up Cubase.

When you start a new project where are you telling it to save to? Maybe try a different location.

Hi event2020,
What Windows 10 Version are you using?
There is a limit on older Windows versions that prevents vstplugins from loading. Its called FLS-Slots and was remedied with Windows 10 - 1909.

This is how this limit works:
https://devblogs.microsoft.com/windows- ... indows-10/ (https://devblogs.microsoft.com/windows-music-dev/effectively-removing-the-fls-slot-allocation-limit-in-windows-10/)

This is when they upped the limit:
https://forums.steinberg.net/t/plugin-f ... ews/120753 (https://forums.steinberg.net/t/plugin-fls-limit-good-news/120753)

Hope this helpful.

All the best,
CS.
