I installed this as its free, so i can have another host for beta testing (also vst3 testing)
im not looking to get too deep, just the basics
are there any "getting started" videos that some more competent users would recommend?
many thanks

You can't get the latest update in that way but...
If you go to Cakewalk forum and the early access program thread you can find a "Cakewalk 2020.xx Rollback installer". The early access is beta testing the new update and rollback installer is there to use if the beta isn't behaving well. In that way you can go back to the version before the update.
I just tested with my version 2020.08 and dl'ed rollback 2020.09 on to a usb and then on to my offline pc and installed it. (The latest update is 2020.10.)(Correction,latest is 2020.11.)
Worked fine.
You'll be one version behind the latest but maybe that's ok considering you could be much further behind doing nothing.

Could you elaborate?Erisian wrote: Thu Mar 18, 2021 10:48 pm I've given up on Cakewalk as I'm fed up of them requiring such frequent reactivation.
Does that mean that it does occasional online checks? I had Cakewalk installed recently, but, uninstalled it again, as I was just checking it out, so, I didn't really notice any activation/reactivation process.

I have had a few pop-ups since I have had it installed, telling me I have so many days left in which to reactivate it and in order to do so, I need to download a new version of the Bandlab installer software. It's free but its getting to be a pain in the rectum. (Actually, it's not free if you have to pay for bandwidth as I have to)chk071 wrote: Thu Mar 18, 2021 10:51 pmCould you elaborate?Erisian wrote: Thu Mar 18, 2021 10:48 pm I've given up on Cakewalk as I'm fed up of them requiring such frequent reactivation.

Hmm, ok. Seems weird indeed for a free product. Don't think I'd have an issue with that, because, I'm basically online 24/7 with all of my computers, but...
I was surprised that you can choose the install location now, BTW. That wasn't possible the last time I tried Cakewalk by Bandlab. Sucks that you can't choose the location for all the content as well though.
And I didn't have luck to set up my keyboard completely. Using it worked, but, the transport controls and the knobs and faders are capable of using the Maeckie HUI protocol for DAW control, and that somehow didn't work when I set it up in Cakewalk (it works fine in Studio One, Cubase or Reaper). Might have done something wrong though.

They require you to reauth approx once every 6 months or you will drop into Demo mode, but it will usually, be taken care of if you update regularly.
Indeed very strange behavior for a free product.

During installation it's asking for a directory for the application content. It's in the preferences if you want to change it afterwards. If you have it installed before it might re-use those old settings.chk071 wrote: Thu Mar 18, 2021 10:57 pm Sucks that you can't choose the location for all the content as well though.
Might be the same thing I had with my M-Audio Code. I needed to set up an extra controller in my case for the other protocol. I checked my settings in FL Studio and copied that to Cakewalk and disable the handshake.chk071 wrote: Thu Mar 18, 2021 10:57 pm And I didn't have luck to set up my keyboard completely.
