Single Core or Multicore performance more important in audio production?

Well, my machine is 2.3ghz, 8 core and my renders in Cubase (11 Pro) are never a problem, slow or unstable or anything. Realtime is also solid. My video renders in Resolve are screamingly fast, FCPX fast, maybe not as optimal as Resolve. I doubt clock speed is the key there. I don't use a single plugin in isolation usually so the argument it only calls one core does not seem all that relevant in my case.

The single-core difference between your choices is going to be in the noise from a practical perspective. Either what you currently have is so slow by comparison that either chip will be a massive boost, or, if you have something close to these in performance then you will be just as annoyed with either of these chips and you will have to change something about your workflow to see a difference.Tendou wrote: Tue Dec 08, 2020 6:51 pm Hey guys im wondering if for audio rendering the single core rendering or the multicore rendering is more important.

The trend is always towards better use of CPU cores so, going forward, you can expect to see more usage of cores for audio software, as others have pointed out, however, this will vary by dev.
More cores usually means slightly lower single core base speed and we can see that in these two chips. However, I think that my comment above applies in that, so long as your current machine is much slower, it's not going to matter.
I would make the decision based on price and availability as both of these chips are remarkably similar in all other respects. Same TDP, same cache, etc.

I've been wanting to build an AMD 5600 build but the CPUs are always out of stock or price gouged . AMD also makes the cpu n gpu for xbox n playstation and they are out of stock or price gouged. My wife works from home now covid-19 so I'm in no rush anyhow .... By the time she goes back to work M1 silicon macs might get my attention . So sick of this pandemic .

Yes, I want to see where the M1X or the M2 goes before I do another build. I'm a bit over big boxes TBH. To add my 2 ccents, it is not about vs, single and multi core are important.
Made some test when I switched to my last CPU, run only Maschine on Windows, not other DAW.
But that should be comparable to opther DAW.
Intel Xeon Haswell 3,4 Ghz 4 CPU ( 8 Core)
Intel I7 6800K 5Ghz 6 CPU, 12 (Core)
That CPU change allowed me the double of the load to run. Prepared some projects multiplies groups with heavy plugins.
The CPU allows me to do "almost" without crackling and I am a plugin whore, not freezing sound slots, maschine cannot.
What helps to balanced the threads ( sounds), avoid crazy aux and send effects routings which tie the sounds together.
Rather insert effects for light processing on each sound, and keep heay CPU plugins complete seprated from other.
Avoid heavy processing in the master, and use more sound groups, 2-3 sounds proccessed in a group instead of 10 e.g.
The AMD 5600 is comparable with single and multi core speed, is a good entry point and youi can do a lot with it.
Do not switch to 5850 now, but I ccan image that this would close the 20% gap I miss, but wait now for the next generation.
Not understimated should be the sond card, was using a USB 200€ device before.
Run now a RME HDSP with a PC Adapter in my PC, this alllows about 25% more load and helps with CPU tense plugins.

More cores / threads requires more processing to allocate data on each of them, so it's not as simple as more=better. It depends.
If not sure, go with 3700x, which you should be able to clock higher, especially that there's more to gain with generational IPC improvements, than just incrementing the sheer amount of cores. Multicore audio processing still isn't that great yet + don't fool yourself with the thought that you can futureproof the machine much

Very high power consumption of Samplitude in task manager

What should be turned on or off?

My processor has 24 cores/32 threads (Intel i9-13900k) and RAM 64GB/3600mhz
I don't have a video card and Task Manager shows the following
With 24 cores set, Processor 8%, RAM 14%, GPU 11%
With 16 cores set, Processor 8%, RAM 14%, GPU 15%
With 8 cores set, Processor 6%, RAM 14%, GPU 13%
How is better?
I have about 20 MIDI tracks but they are not used because they do not have VST instruments loaded and therefore do not load.
VSTs are on BUS tracks, not on all tracks.
There are about 65 tracks and multiplied by 2 times.
4. Does the DAW read the blank until the sound starts and load from there? Or is it better to shorten the empty bar to the beginning of the sound so that it is not readable?
5. Hiper Trading technology is disabled in BIOS because it sleeps the CPU cores to protect it. And now the entire processor must be used efficiently and continuously.
I read this tip in Steinberg.
But I have problems with the sound and with the fastest processor at the moment.
What advice would you give me?

4 or 5 core. otherwise the hyperthreading becomes complex and overworks the bus, much like in the case of a sata's onboard cache; it's very much like a physical drive because there is a beginning and end to linear data. this means the bus itself can only assign so many duties for a certain amount of time depending on the size of data, especially if sample accurate (aligned ticks). It wouldn't be so unhampered lest there were other factors in play, like the math going on inside the processor to create analog waves from digital data using math fuctions (sse). even if cross threading is happening; so is the math; and not necessarily at a linear constant. battle of the bulge; and amd's assignment of certain cores makes this task even more software based, hampering audio speed.Tendou wrote: Tue Dec 08, 2020 6:51 pm Hey guys im wondering if for audio rendering the single core rendering or the multicore rendering is more important.

Intel or the older amd's, ryzen's are the king of raw audio processing power. And all of these things should make anybody see that using an external hdd is a bad idea due to the fsb playing a part in data caching.
If, however; you can find an amd or intel processor with sse controllers on every core; larger could be better. but the new ryzen's no.
I don't make audio products anymore. I sell furniture & smart products.
