Old Bitwig and latest Surge.....hmmm

Bitwig 1.3 and Surge 1.8
Does anyone know if my old Bitwig 1.3 can host the latest surge 1.8 synth?
I've added what I think is the location but it doesn't seem to want to show up.
It's fine with Surge 1.6 in my main vst folder but the latest 1.8 upgrade is so much better.
I've been told it can't be loaded in to my copy of Live 9 without doing some surgery on the Surge code....which is a pain as coding isn't my thing.
I can get it going in an evaluation copy of Reaper, as it lets you add more than one VST location but I don't think it's worth buying Reaper just to play with it after the 60 days are up.
I have 55 days to sort this out but Surge 1.8 is a very very good synth, so much so that I may be persuaded to sell my Komplete license.
Thanks

Surge 1.8 is only VST3, right? So you need support for VST3 in your DAW. In Bitwig 3 I can see it normally.
Using: Cubase Pro 15, Reason 13, Tascam US-4x4HR, MODX6, DM12D, LaunchKey 49, Yamaha guitar(Pacifica 612v) and bass (BB234) and some virtual instruments and synths.

Well it looks like my bitwig is too old for vst 3.
I think I like surge enough to upgrade one of my DAWs.....can anyone recommend which one?
Ableton or Bitwig? Bitwig's latest incarnation looks very interesting but then, so does Live 11.

I suggest to demo the two and take your time before deciding which one.
Personally, I'm using Bitwig nowadays more than Live 11. The two are excellent DAWs really. It is very hard to choose between the two!
However, I prefer slightly the workflow in Bitwig because the shortcuts are easier to remember and also the Windows management is better IMO. Anyway, both have their strengths, so demo both and see which one you feel more comfortable and inspiring with

I watched a Tom Cosm Ableton 11 video yesterday.....it was very impressive how he was using the comping feature to build up a track.
I must admit, I know Live much better and i'm not so keen on the Bitwig upgrade price or the fact that you only get updates for a year but it's still very appealing.....yes, I'll download the demo of each but it's down to whether I have the time to look into them sufficiently.
Choices, choices!

Well, I'm learning now the Grid modular synth. I also like a lot Polymore and I just finished a tutorial about it in MacProVideo:

You can watch 5 videos a day for free in MacProVideo. There are also tons about Live 11
