I'm curious if anyone has experience using an RME babyface with Linux. Apart from being class-complient there's some patches to get access to the mixer https://www.bollie.de/blog/2020/04/20/t ... and-linux/

Wondering if this also includes any I/O channels connected via ADAT (seems like it would)

The Arch Linux audio page has some tips, maybe these links will help:

I would install the alsafirmware and alsautilities packages from your distro,
which will help linux see under the hood, and provide a mixer interface.

Command:

arecord -l and aplay -l

to see if the rme is listed

Then there are lots of linux rme topics in the search engines for several rme models to colate possible configurations. Hope you get it working!

A new linux amp software arrived recently, the 'Swanky Amp'.
The linux version arrived by way of the kx-studio repository/

I set it up in Reaper and with 19 settings dials, and preset saving, it's very easy to use, and create tones your effects have longed for. There are ten presets, ranging from clean to mayhem, accessed by widgets or menu. I used it with Zyn chorus and Dragonfly reverb, and it sounds fine. I'm not Mac McMetal, so high gainers can put it on trial, hopefully with positive results.

Thanks for the details. It's looking like the babyface should work well in CC mode. Just trying to figure out now if the number of inputs will be sufficient for me - at least for the near future.

It's available for an year in openSUSE at least: https://build.opensuse.org/package/show ... /SwankyAmp

I wonder if the dev produced the linux version, or was it built from

https://en.opensuse.org/Portal:Build_Service ? Or collaboration?

Suse has been at it for ages, I still have my boxed set from a big
book retailer, version 7.6, I think, and a suse based Jacklab distro cd,
my first attempts using wineasio. Time flies :hyper:

The qjackctl/qtractor/V1 Suite collection has Suse releases,
so it must be pretty solid.
Cheers

It was built by me for the GeekosDAW openSUSE repo. It is a big Linux audio package base, maybe the biggest :)

Any positive experiences with ZRythm?

I tried installing it recently (pop!_OS) and the DAW seems to work fine, but crashes whenever I try loading any VST2 or VST3 plugin (U-He, TAL-Software, disco_DSP, Vital, Surge - the regular Linux-native stuff).

Have you tried the same plugins in reaper and qtractor? Try starting everything
in your session from terminals, in case some clues appear after a crash.

Sometimes people switch from their distro's repository wine,
to a wineHQ wine-staging or wine-stable, which usually requires
a combination of package-manager, and manual efforts to be fully
rid of one provider's wine, before installing one from another.

I've sometimes mixed up installed parts of LinVst plugin wrapper,
when copying between systems, If you use that, maybe remove it all,
and do a fresh install.

I sometimes copy plugins from usr/lib64/vst (or lv2) to .vst and .lv2
...and forget to change permissions from root to user...

It's also good luck to have a few differing linux setups on usb sticks/drives etc
to help pinpoint the source of problems.
Cheers

In Texas, it is sometimes said of a person, 'He's all hat, and no cattle'.
I think you've got both the cattle, and the hat
I'll check out the GeekosDAW soon. Thanks for mentioning it.

Discovered at the linux Reaper forum, the PianoBook (mainly Kontakt) sampling content is being converted for a linux sample player plugin called DecentSampler,
over 100 instruments converted so far from a growing collection of over 400 :hyper:

Discussion and the needed links for downloading the plugin, sounds, and a video
are at:

https://forum.cockos.com/showthread.php?t=251200

The sounds I downloaded were all keepers, and worked OK in linux Reaper
after I remembered turning on the keyboard helps move things along :dog:
Unpack the tar archive, and place the plugins in your linux vst/vst3 paths,
and standalone in /usr/bin or .local/bin etc

Video is Nomadic Dmitry running Ubuntu on his new Mac M1 by way of Parallels.
He does a Debian session in another video, with more videos on the way. 8)
(Last time I talked that fast was in an IRS audit.) The M1 hardware is really running
linux at high speed. Glad there are adventurers like Dmitry sharing their
experiences!

discoDSP has added file management for banks, presets, themes
and typical naming/saving to obxd 2.3 release :hyper:
So one of the premier vsti synths just became much more usable in linux,
21 banks, and 5 nice themes are at the ready. A right-click on the gui brings up the menu for the new capabilities. Seen lurking in the pic below. Better than a giant chocolate easter egg :hihi:

Obxd, Odin2, Vital, Surge, DecentSampler, 2021 has been great for musicians so far.
