Can anyone help me get a realistic hammond sound. There are a lot of B£ organs and I am not sure which to choose also a lot of the 'hammond' sound is down to the leslie cabinet so I wanted to try and emulate that using the cabinet and rotary FX.

Has anyone done this sucussfully?

Thanks in advance

i have tried a few, B4 by NI seems to have pegged the B3 the best to my ears

Thanks for help thus far but really wanted to use sampletank and not have to purchase another softsynth...

Any ideas on the leslie cab emulation?

I don´t like the Leslie-emulation in sampletank at all. It sounds like it´s on top of the organ sound instead of being a part of it. The B4 is better but not perfect. The most realistic VSTi when it comes to organsounds is probably Plugsounds Charlie where the sounds are sampled with slow/fast leslie and you use the mod-wheel to crossfade from one to another.

I'm fond of the B4's Leslie but have heard people who hate it as much as I like it.

It's not free, and might not be available any longer, but Akai Pro makes/made a VST called "Rotator" that did nothing but.

Ah, it's still for sale. Might be an orphan though. I get the impression Akai aren't producing their VST series any longer (a shame, because they're excellent; hope I'm wrong about this).

Look around, you can probably get it cheaper than this.

ORGANized Trio you can download and have for free. It's not quite as good as B4 but for the price it is unbeatable. And unlike SampleTank (which I love) you can choose any drawbar setting you want -- you're not restricted to what's been sampled. (Same goes for the B4.)

I am eventuall doing a virtual 9 drawbar B3 for Sonik Synth 2 as a free update. It already has the drawbars but there is some cool combi programming with each drawbar responding to a different midi controller. That plus just straight up killer B3 samples in SS2 might do the trick.

However, I like B4 a lot and the Leslie effect isn't too bad. I haven't yet found an effect that does quite what the real deal does. But, I too would be curious to hear any other Leslie simulators that are supposed to be good. The B4 Leslie sim is the best one I've heard in software. It's a nice product. There are a few minor complaints I have with the full program of B4 but not many. It's a lot of fun.

There's a new leslie simulator posted on the kvr homepage (only DX by the looks of things) http://www.kvr-vst.com/get/1373.html

Very interesting! As Victor Frankenstein, M.D., D.Sc. (Mad), used to say, "One can never have enough organs. Remember this always, Igor."

Sounds great Squids... Will you sample the Leslie as well or will you be using the leslie-sim? Or perhaps a stretch-leslie? I´d hate to see excellent B3-samples (Emerson alá Trilogy, please!!!!) being ruined by the poor leslie-sim in ST2. Like I mentioned before on this topic, to me it doesn´t sound like it´s IN the sound, it sounds like it´s on top of it (if you understand what I mean  )

I like the Rotary effect in ST2. But, I like it more as a modulated effect than as a true Leslie sim.

To answer your quesion, we did both non Leslie and with Leslie slow and fast samples. The virtual drawbar organ is all without Leslie and it sounds best when you run it through a good Leslie simulator. I ran it through the B4 and it sounded great. Too bad they don't sell B4's leslie as its own effect. But, it would be interesting to find a multiplatform (mac and pc, not just pc and not just DX) Leslie simulator that sounds as much as possible like the real thing.

Now, as for Stretch with real Leslie sampled... there's a surprise update coming that will make this work really well. But, I can't discuss it much yet.

Well, sorry about that. Let's just say that there are always plans to improve and enhance ST2 engine for the benefit of all of the many products that are in its family.
