Audio Things Motor

It just occurred to me to put a full wet delay on sidechained audio clip so that I can shift it about that way--easy enough.
Doing nothing is only fun when you have something you are supposed to do.

As a workaround you could process the side chain on its way to Motor. I am looking forward to putting this in some feedback paths. Should be spiffy.audiothing wrote: Mon Mar 22, 2021 11:10 pm Thanks guys! I'm happy that you like it!
That's interesting indeed, however, the Things format is meant to be simple without too much stuff. There could have been a LOT of features to add, but sometimes it's better to have limits.Dirtgrain wrote: Mon Mar 22, 2021 10:38 pm It would be cool if there was a knob on Things Motor that could achieve this--to delay/shift the sidechain audio in a buffer before it is affected by the modulation.
Is this guy designed to distort at higher input levels? I haven't played with it yet. I'm planning on smashing the output with some dirty old waveshaper to add more dirty to the audio rate modulation, but having a bit of dirt on the output is always fun.

took me a while to find what this was good for but mixing loops to generate new rhythms is the most useful so far - two loops, put backmask on the sidechain, very niceDirtgrain wrote: Mon Mar 22, 2021 10:38 pm I'm digging this. Running two different drum loops through it can make for something new from what you have. I played around with shifting a drum loop on the sidechained audio track small amounts so that different parts of the drum sounds come through. It would be cool if there was a knob on Things Motor that could achieve this--to delay/shift the sidechain audio in a buffer before it is affected by the modulation.

So it seems LookMumNoComputer ported this to hardware...

this is one of the first im tempted to try
(fidget spinner/ldr doesn't really count)

Actually yes! The tremolo is made with a waveshaper instead of a simple volume modulation. This was a great tip by Ivan Coen!Ah_Dziz wrote: Tue Mar 23, 2021 12:10 amIs this guy designed to distort at higher input levels? I haven't played with it yet. Those pads sounds are great, through this little gizmo!

I am still not super impressed. Seems very subtle to me and perhaps not as useful for things like pads as soniclabs Volbot. But for rhythmic material it is good and of course is very cheap. I think I need to see a really solid tutorial that shows overt changes for each parameter to really get the idea

It's something that could be done in any modular type environment if you wanted to, but for rhythmically mixing between two signals or more if you want to chain instances, it seems like it would be very fun and simple while also having it's own sound. Being a compulsive buyer of plugins myself (especially very cheap "one trick pony" plugins) I'm definitely in for even the full price. Mixing between a relatively dry and a super processed version of a signal is a great trick and this makes the trick easy to do in pretty much any host. Adding the ability to push the mix speed into the audio range makes for even more options. I'd demo it if you haven't.fairlyclose wrote: Wed Mar 24, 2021 2:17 am I am still not super impressed. it is subtle
and we all have our tremolos, vibratos and what not but...:
what seems to work quite nice is
to have several pad sounds/synths and several rhythmic sounds
and with the sidechain interconnect them like in a network
PAD-A has PAD-C as sidechain, PAD-B has PAD-A and so on....go wild...
you'll get pulsating, sound exchanging galore in a manner you'd never thought about

this is the sort of thing Volbot is good for as well - although more expensive and more difficult to understand. Of course having both is the solutionmuki wrote: Wed Mar 24, 2021 3:28 am it is subtle
