Hi all,
I have a question regarding the use of the input/spectral follower modules in LION that I hope one of you kind folks can answer.
According to the manual, both modules use "the plug-in's audio input" to generate a modulation signal. My understanding of this - and please correct me if I am wrong - is that audio to generate the modulation signal is being fed into LION from outside (as in: from an external track of the DAW)
of the plug-in.
If my understanding is correct, I can't figure out how to do this in Ableton Live 11, neither as an AU nor VST2 or VST3. From what I can see, the plug-in would need to have a side chain input for this to work, similar to for instance Ableton's Auto Filter effect (or Surge, as an example of an external VST instrument).
Is my understanding here correct and if so, how can I get audio into LION for the follower modules to work? I also tried this in Logic and Bitwig yesterday without success, but as I have used Logic last almost 20 years ago and Bitwig never before, I may have done something wrong there.
Thanks a bunch for any input!
Martin

That exact same description exists in the BYOME manual, where you do actually have a sidechain input available, so I wonder if it's a copy-paste error. My guess is in LION those modules are just tracking the envelope/spectral content of the oscillators before they hit the FX section but you'd have to do some experimenting to see if that's actually the case.

Thanks for your quick reply - I just tried this with the input follower and it looks like you are right both about the behaviour and the copy-paste error (I even have BYOME but never thought to compare the manuals!).Greenstorm33 wrote: Sat Mar 20, 2021 4:50 pm That exact same description exists in the BYOME manual, where you do actually have a sidechain input available, so I wonder if it's a copy-paste error. Bit of a bummer, as I think it would be nice to be able to modulate with an external signal, but I guess I'll live... case closed as far as I am concerned, unless someone from UA wants to chime in and tell me this is coming in version 2.0!
Thanks again,
Martin

Hey I found this helpful information repeated frequently from the manual:
'Donec facilisis egestas quam. Duis bibendum augue id mauris. Sed laoreet, tortor vel cursus fringilla, turpis elit vestibulum arcu,
eu varius dolor leo in nulla. In sem ipsum, faucibus quis, varius tristique, porta eget, lorem. Curabitur hendrerit diam et mauris.
Etiam porta nunc euismod dui. Maecenas a lectus. In hac'
Do you think it likely that a company that shamelessly puts out unprofessional materials with casual latin text placeholders that could be corrected in about ten minutes, but is still uncorrected after two years of release is likely to have any consideration for the actual proper operation of its software?

Not sure whether you mean Unfiltered Audio or PlugIn Alliance but i hope you are referring to PA and not Unfiltered.tactile_coast wrote: Sun Mar 21, 2021 1:42 am Hey I found this helpful information repeated frequently from the manual:

In Bitwig you could very easily do this -- add an audio rate modulator to the synth, set up the input from whatever and then map that to any number of parameters, each assignment having its own scaling factor, or even attenuated through other modulators if you'd like. If you're often finding yourself looking to do this kind of thing you might take Bitwig for a spin and see if you like it.blacklightmartin wrote: Sat Mar 20, 2021 5:13 pm Bit of a bummer, as I think it would be nice to be able to modulate with an external signal, but I guess I'll live... case closed as far as I am concerned, unless someone from UA wants to chime in and tell me this is coming in version 2.0!![]()

probably, although I use big threads like this to research plugins - and just bought Kaleidoscope from someone who saw I was doing that with a huge kaleidoscope thread and PMd me they had it for sale. So it can be a good way to communicate with people who are specifically interested.Tj Shredder wrote: Sat Mar 27, 2021 2:17 pmI guess all who follow this thread for 80 pages own it already... what rules? I scarcely think one post is spamming. If you and Tj Shredder had not responded I would not have posted again at allNoumena wrote: Sat Mar 27, 2021 2:49 pm Keep the buy and sell off this thread. It’s against the rules. You’re spamming everyone.

Just skimmed through the whole manual and couldn't see that text anywhere, until I did used the 'find text' function and it these text blocks are completely invisible (well, white text on white background). Is this really an issue ?!tactile_coast wrote: Sun Mar 21, 2021 1:42 am Hey I found this helpful information repeated frequently from the manual:
