Boss ds-1,any decent vst?

I used to play with simulanalog fx when was 32bit cubase user,but recently discover that Cakewalk 64bit can't run older version and didn't show gui and it's teasing,but stereo version works at least works.
Any other freebie or affordable vst to use instead of hardware Boss ds-1?
By the way i don't use them on guitar,but as saturation on synth tracks.

Yes the Hornet might be the way to go if it is suitable, no copy protection and easy installation and all that.

Yeah I quite like their plugins, this one is no exception. I only wished they had like a “pedalboard” we could chain these effects in.

I like the Hornet one too; cheap as chips and has a nice 'open' sound.

The BX/plugin alliance one is good too, I think all there pedals are decent except for the RAT one (black driver?), not a patch on the TSE R4T freebie.

I am guitar player and i'm kind of bored of all same 30-40 years old fx used again and again,but highly recommend,in case you haven't use guitar fx over synth track to try it,cause results are quite satisfied
Especially if you look for 'dirty' sound.

Now that you mention it:

all of their amps seem to be based on the same framework - it would be great if they released some kind of container/host where you can switch between all amps and all cab-chains you have (perhaps even with the ability to mix and match the preamps and power-amps from different plugins) plus the pedal-board you mentioned. I would certainly purchase that (on a sale, obviously).

I'm not a guitar player, but the PA Distorange sounds like a good emulation of the Boss DS-1 in my opinion.
I own both and I dislike both the same way (I don't like the DS-1 sound, that is), so they must be quite close (diclaimer: I'm a synth addicted, not a guitar player).

Well there is Gig Performer, but as great as that is, its not how I'd like to work. I just want a simple pedal "stacker" well, just like a pedal board really. Logic has one, but its Logic only. Amplitude has one, but its Amplitude only.

I don't really care if the amp is part of the same plugin, in fact I prefer it if the amp and pedals are different plugins as I have the option to insert something else in between. Although, just like a pedalboard it would be really convenient if they can put all their amps in one plugin too. It makes for easier auditioning. Replacing one plug with another just isn't as streamlined as just tapping a "next" button. They kind of have this with bx_rockrack, but its only a small handful of amps, not their whole collection.

Anyway, thats where I stand with it.
