Willow ...
Just finished this. It's an experiment to create a something as quickly as possible and with a live feeling. The Jazz thing just sort of came out so I went with it. Started late last night and took about 4-5 hours. Apart from a couple of pads this is just me playing Sampletank presets.
Freedom Kit
DnB Double Bass
Acoustic Grand 1 (more reverb than preset)
Wah Str
I added a little compression over the whole thing, but apart from that it is unmixed. I am amazed how Sampletank stuff just drops into the mix.
ANy feedback much appreciated.

Paulie:
Good job ... nice and tasteful. I was trying to count to it and kept losing myself. All that means is I have a metronome dancing in me head! I see what you mean about all the instruments fitting together in the mix. Great feel though. I kept waiting for Traffic's "Low Spark of High Heeled Boys" to kick in. It would make a helluva intro actually! (Matter of fact, I cued it up while listening to yours and it flows nicely right from yours into Mr. Winwood's). Question ... at about :50 or so there starts a little talk box kinda sound way in the background. Just curious what that is. Fits real well! Keep em coming ... I could lose myself in jams like this all night!

Thanks for listening. Its always fascinating to hear what other hear in your music. I've never listened to Traffic other than the stuff on the Radio. In fact I remember hearing SW a lot on the radio when I spent a college summer in the USA. I'm sort of tempted to now, but i'm going to resist because I want to put a vocal with this.
As for the timing its in 3/4 time of course, but I did tap in all of the drumbeats to give a Human feel and its not quite in time in places your'e right. The talk box sound is a just a sample of a WAH WAH guitar. Most of my samples are collected off Computer Music cover disks so I presume thats where it came from
Best Wishes

Cool:
Yeah I wouldn't listen to it until after your done either. I've got a handful of those Computer Music CD's laying around too. I might just pull them out and see if I can find anything "inspiring" on there myself. Regarding the timing, I don't do much if any 3/4 time myself but I have been known to use the drum track to guide my timing through the piece and then later take it out. Gives it an eirie kinda "how they hell do they know where they're at" kinda feel, don't you think? Anyway, keep posting new stuff. It's that good. I grew up doing rock , pop, country, top 40, etc. and only play by ear. But I love Jazz stuff. I appreciate it probably more because it's beyond my technical abilities! Anyway, if I were to mix some of my stuff in Cubase down to an mp3 file (I think I can make it that far) how do people post their songs here for others to download. Most of the time I see "links" to the music, but usually never is the file actually "there". Do I need to find some sort of free music server that will let me upload my music and then link others to it? Is that how it works? Just a noob being curious!

My Dad gave me a tip on this. Try counting out the bars like this 123, 223 ,323, 423. Discounting the Hi-Hit lead in on Willow there are two sections of 8 bars(lots of 3) from where the piano comes in so you should get to 823 twice (48 Hi Hats in total). He used to play in dance bands and used this technique to count where to come back in after a long rest. Hope that makes sense / helps. Willow does use 6 bar, 5 bar and 1 bar sections to give interest.
You heard my music through MusicV2.com. I recommend them highly. There is a fee but they are very good indeed. It is basically one guy who you can email etc if there are problems (i've never had any). Once you have signed they create a page for you. You then follow a set of Q&A's and eventually (quite quickly) your MP3 is online. The only drawback is that the presentation style is fixed and there are sections about your hobbies which are bit naff. The alternative is to host it on your own website not as hard as it seems
