It may very well turn out to be pretty good, I'm kind of intrigued. They have obviously lots of talented people working for them, they've got all the capital to develop this and are aware of the fact that releasing a free, fully featured and polished DAW is going to be the best kind of advertisement for their brand. They will obviously pilfer various elements from different DAWs, but honestly, I don't care about it that much as long as they come up with something inspiring. Cautiously optimistic here.

i think it's in general a stupid thought not being able to criticize something because it's free. if it has the same flaws like paid products you should point them out as well. this "oh how generous, we need to praise it" attitude is long outdated. it may have had its validity when there wasn't much free stuff available.

hardware integration sounds good as a thought and already worked as win for pro tools. i'm still witing to see it before judging anything. i mean they now had at least the chance to see the issues with uad luna as a new daw and are able to prepare for these issues before releasing it.

Yeah, not quite following why free stuff should be exempt from criticism; especially when constructive criticism is vital for improvement.

@SLiC's argument wasn't that it's exempt from criticism, but rather that it's much easier to overlook or forgive some things if you're not paying hundreds of $$$. Like for example people get over how much Reaper sucks, because it's only $60

First part is likely true. I imagine that people might also be less likely to provide bug reports for free products as there is no real investment. Just delete, move on and forget.

Second part misses the mark; Reaper is awesome.

The issue I see is that there isn't really room for another free/affordable DAW unless it has some great USP to set it apart.
This is different from their synth clones, which genuinely filled a hole in the market.

I'm happy with Bitwig... I'm not looking for another DAW. But for someone or a band who has a Behringer mixer/interface, a free DAW that automatically works with it could be a happy option!
