Any news on the Behringer DAW?

The fact that it will be completely free will make it hard to criticize (but obviously that won't stop the Behringer haters).

i think it's in general a stupid thought not being able to criticize something because it's free. if it has the same flaws like paid products you should point them out as well. this "oh how generous, we need to praise it" attitude is long outdated. it may have had its validity when there wasn't much free stuff available.

Why can't we do both: Praise the DAW for being free AND
point out the bugs and flaws?

I think just the opposite is the case!

Many "free" software projects rely on a large user base reporting bugs.
And such software is often more stable and tried and tested. I'm also
thinking of Reaper (not free, but very inexpensive). And look at Bandlab
Cakewalk: Since it's free, almost all bugs have been fixed.

In the graphics area it is even more obvious: GIMP, KRITA, Blender - they
are all based on user feedback - and that's why they shine with their high
level of stability and freedom from errors.

It might depend on the user and how they relate to the software - if they see potential in areas that other software might not offer - or where the price of an alternative is vastly different. And, certainly, the larger the user base, the more potential feedback.

Keep in mind what the Behringer announcement said when they revealed their plan.
They will have some integration with their products (digital mixer etc.). That might be their secret sauce and not just make yet another DAW for an already over-saturated market.

However, similar to LUNA, this creates yet another restricted product that is meant to tie users to the company's other product. So the intention is not to create a better DAW for the user, the intention is to sell more of their product. So the "free" thing comes at a "price".

Well, the new Behringer DAW won't bother Reaper at all. Because the
Reaper community are special people who like to tinker, customize
and develop themselves. So it's a rather small, closed circle.

No, the Behringer DAW is clearly aimed at the mass market, at average
consumers who need a DAW that can get started right away. And who
can then move all the little hardware controls.

But that means: The Behringer DAW will compete with Protools, Logic,
Cubase, Ableton, etc. A highly interesting development that will unfortunately
also trigger a price war - and which will cause difficult times for some
companies. Unfortunately.

That pretty much contradicts itself. I doubt that Behringer will include features for postproduction and Dolby Atmos mixes. And PT is also not aimed at the mass market and the average user.

BTW, AVID doesn't need Behringer to lose market share in the DAW market. AVID is doing a pretty good job themselves to alienate their current customers already so they jump ship.

from what's been said by behringer, it's a host anyone can use on the computer but if you do buy certain hardwares to come, they will be fully integrated. it did include something about the "wing" too, again linking it fully with the computer...

obviously, no one really knows, or at least they didn't when the announcement was made, as none of the hardware existed and the host hadn't had one line of code written.
but the plan was as above.
