which bands copied led zeppelin or van halen? if you can do it better, then do it. you only get that level of imitation out of edm, because edm is born from imitation. bands used to have identities. they had personalities. imitators didn't make it. it's not so easy to reproduce 5 people working together playing live instruments.

lol. I do actually like GVF, and I give them props, not only for sounding like Led Zeppelin, (which is a great sound, but has been done before) but also for not acknowledging their influence which is the most Led Zeppelin thing that you could possibly do.

C’mon man, not every rock or glam band of the 80’s copied Led Zep or VH... there were plenty of others that copied Aerosmith.

i don't think led zep sounded like aerosmith, or vh. even though they were all classic rock. i also don't think def leppard sounded like motley crew or like cinderella, even tho they were all hair bands. a scene doesn't mean they all sound the same, and this is insignificant, but a side note: college rock was different from grunge (one being west coast, and the other being more Detroit based). With digital media you DO all sound the same. it's digitally reproduced. the exact same every time. now, i was fine with that. i liked the play and sound of VSTI's, i have used them
for a while, until it became so prominent that every house hold had at least two people with the same instruments making the same tracks over and over AND ....the ease of access to these daws and VSTi's has made the musician irrelevant. that's my argument. have fun guys.

Usually genre defining bands spawn a lot of copycats. Foo Fighters have some excellent songs, but they also have (in my opinion) a majority of mediocre songs. I don't think they could be classed as genre defining, in the same was as zeppelin or Nirvana would have been. I say that as someone who enjoys Foo Fighters music MORE than either of the above, but genre defining they are not.
