Anybody confirm this?

If I have Ozone 9 Pro (for example) on a project which I send to a collaborator who has Ozone 9 advanced, the collaborators daw will not open ozone advanced in place of pro. This is what seems to be the case.

Most annoying.

Well, for starters, there is no such thing as Ozone 9 Pro. And Advanced has more plugins than standard. You need like for like.

Um, yes there is. If you have a subscription then everything is 'pro'.

If you have 'pro' then it isn't compatible with 'advanced' it would seem.

So:

Essentials, Standard, Advanced and Pro and the versions.

Advanced can open standard I think, but Pro cannot open advanced, nor essensials.

Oh, yes, I see that now. My bad. They added "Pro" to the names of all the plugins with a subscription plan. Perhaps this was done so that the subscription versions can be easily removed from your system if a subscription is cancelled - while retaining any identical non-subscription VSTs you may have purchased previously. Anyway, Izotope's technical support is very good, so maybe contact them and get the low-down on compatibility between versions. I think the internal VST names have been changed for subscription products making them different to standard and advanced products in the eyes of your DAW and that of your collaborator. Good luck!

The strange thing is that I'm sure 'advanced' can open instances saved with 'standard'. I dunno. Anyway, annoying.

Advanced has more modules and can open standard presets. I’ve seen issues where a collaborator of mine was using an older version of Advanced. There is a support article on how to migrate presets from older versions if they don’t open.

I’d contact support as it seems something is not right.

Can confirm (from izotope) that pro and advanced are different plugins as far as DAWs are concerned.

Strange decision in my opinion. Apparently they can share presets, but thats it.

I can see both sides of this design. As a user, with ozone versions dating back to 5, I find it difficult to maintain older projects without having backups of my computer or maintaining an old version of macOS. As a former tech engineer, I understand the balance of backward compatibility of a plug-in over time (same instance name) vs preset compatibility.

Izotope has chosen the latter most likely due to the fact so much has changed over the years. Ozone does include previous versions of their limiter as radio button options.

Perhaps the Pro version is their attempt at unification. In any case it’s a challenging dilemma.
