The price has remained high on this one as it's still new and popular - but it's coming down. $99 (minus voucher) is the cheapest it's been. Before that $150 was the cheapest.
I'd say by Black Friday or Xmas this year it'll be $50 or under.

I had the one year subscription and truly speaking did not like the muddy and boomy sound in low end caused by SSL 9000 j, that's just what I do not want. But maybe that's what you need for hip hop!?
9000 j is used for hip hop I read somewhere.

This is an interesting comparison -
In this example, J seems to have a 3rd dimension in sound, feels like it's breathing, while on E it feels a little bit lifeless. G seems a bit more edgy, but it's somewhere between J and E.
PS. That's what I hear and feel. I'm curious what you guys think.

To me the E has a lot of high freq going on and the lows its a bit thin. The G seems similar to be but with more low freq punch. The J to me sounds a lot better on the highs, more transparent and the lows on par with the G. Maybe just the speakers I'm using tho. I liked the G and the J more than the E.

Ssl j the only one with quite a lot of gain reduction, g and e no gain reduction!??? Ssl shows its character when compressing, so this comparison is worth nothing. When you compare you should also equal amount of GR! I once had all three, g is the best one imo, but imo channel strips are not pa's strength anyway

I have all the PA SSL channel strips. I don't like the EQ on the G at all. The E was good and used it on all drum tracks for a couple years. The J seems like an improvement over the E. Maybe it's a little more rich sounding? I can't put my finger on it but the overall sound of the compression on the J is much improved. I used the J on the last six mixes. I hear a difference I like.

Do you also use it on master?
I make blues, funk, rock, pop an the low end on busses with 9000 j was just too muddiy or boomy, did not like it at all. Also read on some threads or youtube that other users do not like 9000 j low end.
I do not like channel strips very much, the only one here and then I like is Waves omni sheps, though, but that's just me.

I do mostly Americana Folk Rock kind of stuff but with a bit bigger drum sound. I only use the 9000J on individual drum tracks. Typically, that will be 14 tracks. I don't have any channel plugins on the master buss. For the master buss, it's usually a compressor, EQ, widener, limiter in that order. The specifics change depending on what I am mixing.Najimad wrote: Thu Jun 10, 2021 9:49 pmI am curious to know what music genre?trmupstage wrote: Thu Jun 10, 2021 9:37 pm I have all the PA SSL channel strips. The focusrite didn't do anything for me. I only have it an hour or so after I bought it. It's been collecting digital dust since then. It may be great for some but it just wasn't for me when I tested it out. It wasn't aggressive or sweet. It was kind of in the middle so I just never pick it.

Focusrite is the only PA channel strip I still have. I only use its de-esser, but always together with another de-esser.
Focusrite is way more subtle than SSL, but sometimes that's maybe just what you want!?

Very nice track, I especially like the vocals with no noticeable reverb. Most people would add a rather huge reverb, I very often use no reverb at all on vocals when I use my tube mic. Great track, thanks for posting

Could you tell what widener you use. I have some problem using a widener. For instance when I have background vocals I pan them 35 left and right, do not like them to be panned to the very left or right, also do not want them to be too far away from lead vocals.
If I add some widener on master, they are all of a sudden too far from lead vocal and I do not like that. Have not found a good use for widener, yet, it changes a mix too drastically imo. How do you exactly use it? Sorry for being ot

I often use bx_control v2. I mono the bass frequencies under 60hz and spread the sound out at 120%. It's subtle. Anything more than that seems to mess with the mix too much. Thank you for the kind words.

For those who were waiting, this is now $49.99 with the sale code - XMAS21-9000J. I have a $25 voucher too so I think I'm going to drop for under $25.
I've been enjoying using the IKM White Channel on my drum tracks, so interested how this might be an upgrade. Sara Carter on Youtube really rates the PA 9000J, and I really respect her opinion (she also used a 9000J for years working at the BBC, so I trust her when she says it sounds good in comparison).
