Continuum without a doubt feels absolutely the best and most responsive to touch. Linnstrument has limited Y axis movement which is something I don't appreciate, but is overall a very well executed idea.

Also, I have Osmose on early bird preorder. That one also seems very promising.
I have a Continuum. It is the most expressively responsive, but I find it hard to play any faster passages. But for slower sounds, it works very well. Overall, I feel like it gets in my way too much and shapes what I want to do more than I like.

You can find some video on the Embodme Fb group.
(I use a prototype too).

I don't think any of those MPE controllers are suitable for fast playing (even Jordan Rudess slows down on Continuum :P). Except (I would imagine) Osmose has that potential, because it didn't depart from Halberstadt layout.

Doesn't this belong in the hardware forum? Maybe a mod can move it where it belongs?

I really like my mcMillen k-board pro 4. It is not like the others.

Interesting - seems hard to believe that they would not have this. Maybe we should verify?

Whywhy wrote: Fri Apr 09, 2021 8:45 am Embodme Erea touch will have an Y.
The website does not list Y axis as a capability... it is missing. And none of the videos show Y axis. So how do you know it will have Y axis? And why doesn't it have it as an integral part of it right from the start?

From the Embodme press kit:

"6 types of Polyphonic touch sensing per note:
+ Strike velocity
+ Z-axis pressure (bend and aftertouch)
+X or Left-Right Axis (Slide)
+Y or Up-Down axis (glide)
+Released velocity (lift)"

I can play fast and fluid on the Linnstrument... and with good note control. I regularly play without pitch quantization.

But I bet you can't play some stuff one could easily achieve on a regular keyboard. :)

For non-keyboards probably linnstrument, because you can use the same chord shapes anywhere, whereas keyboard shapes change depending on root note.

That being said, I'm a guitarist and not an amazing keyboardist, and my favorite is the seaboard rise. I like the feel and response, the glides are easier ad there's more room for expression ranges, both with pressure and vertically. Also, chords can be a bit awkward with the linstrument, whereas you can do the traditional keyboard shapes with a rise. So that's just my preference, however I have a linnstrument also and like it for different things.

I just checked out the embodme thing, looks cool. I've always wanted a linstrument sized roli lightpad block because I like the feel of it and it can have different uses. Maybe this embodme device is sort of that...

What is the minimum grid square size? Is it 3x3 of the little dots? So what is the max grid size of notes? I see a 10x14 option in the video, but wondering if it could do squares that are 2x2 dots instead.

Post

Pretty sure that 2x2 is the smallest.

Cool, that would be good. I love the idea of having changeable sizes. Sometimes you want the expressiveness of the larger range and sometimes you want access to more notes.

I think that their visualization of the traditional keyboard is confusing though, with the different colors/shades for different notes. They should just do the outlines, with maybe a darker shade for the middle of the black notes.

This thread is about MPE controllers and I was comparing Linnstrument and Continuum. Maybe you got lost in the wrong thread? :P

Tj Shredder wrote: Thu Apr 08, 2021 7:49 pm LinnStrument without doubt. I tried all...
But there is a new kid on the block comming soon:
https://www.embodme.com/
Could be an alternative... I ordered one...
Nice, that's the one I was leaning towards! Should I go for the 128 or the other one you think?
When I got it there was only the big one. Its was worth every penny I paid...
I was thinking about getting a small one as well, as the big one is complicated in a plane. But I got a Sensel in addition, and made a LinStru Mini layout I am quite happy with it, as alternative for traveling and jamming in the park...
The Erae Touch is shorter but wider than the LinnStrument. I can’t say yet if it is recommendable as it didn’t arrive yet...
Roger Linns support is the absolute best in the whole industry, you can’t be wrong in getting a LinnStrument... The big one is better if you plan to learn playing with two hands... But its also a matter of price, the small one is significantly cheaper...
