i am working on a standalone DAW and the working title is "Blockhead". I have 1000 ideas in my head and have implemented about 10 of them. Thanks very much for all your comments and excitement.
Thoughts on this? Being able to so freely manipulate samples directly in the main arrangement page with this block-region system would open up some seriously interesting possibilities, not to mention all the other cool stuff he is implementing.

Isn't the concept of having separate Clip editor or Inspector panel is exactly for avoiding the hassle this design choice is going to bring? I was not particularly fond of Acid's inline piano roll because of the same reason.

Seen this few days ago. I wonder if he plans to support MIDI in any way? If he does and device automation would work in the same way (as clips), then I'd be very interested, indeed!

I agree that MIDI might be trickier, Pro Tools had the same problem for a long time. I personally wouldn't mind it if you could simply zoom in like with the audio blocks. Zooming into a bigger/full-screen view of the region would essentially achieve the same effect as popping open a separate window like you do in most DAWs anyway, except making it easier to see what you're doing in relation to the rest of the arrangement, i.e. lining up a MIDI note with an audio region transient, etc.

Blockhead is downloadable in its alpha stage (if you support Colugo via patreon).
Very nice tool for experimentation. Great opportunity to follow and have an effect on the development of an innivative audio software.

Colugo released a public alpha version of Blockhead.
Many changes, additions and improvements since the last post in this thread here.
Really worth a closer look... a versatile sample mangling beast of its own.

I'm trying to get to grips with it but it looks pretty cool. For the developers did you guys use Godot to build the app. I've been looking into Godot as platform to build apps myself.

Anywho. Things I like:

The loopback recorder is cool. I like that I can easily just drop anything that is recorded into a track. Very slick.

The way to edit and work with envelopes very cool. You can pretty much manipulate audio/instruments however you want directly in the view no knob twiddling just draw it in like you are drawing automation. This make pretty much every thing drawable. You can draw amps, noise, grains parameters etc. Again very slick.

Improvements:

Its still early days so I won't say much but the interface is a bit confusing at times but again its early so maybe the devs have a particular direction they are trying to go. There are some really cool concepts here so I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt.

After the video I subscribed to the Patreon. Blockhead is really fun, even if it's still in alpha.

Ask not what your DAW can do for you, but what you can do with your DAW

Just joined the Patreon. This is an amazingly innovative new piece of music creation software. I hope the developer can keep at it and make a living out of this. It's amazing!

Worth joining his Discord too, the developer seems like a genuine guy.

Thanks for the heads up on this, joining it all. Loving the extremely creative take on musical tools.

So far I've really enjoyed using Blockhead. It crashes occasionally, but for an alpha it's not bad.

I think Blockhead has the easiest, fastest resampling of any DAW I've tried. You can grab anything out of the loopback buffer. You can also bounce an effected signal without touching the original sample.

A small detail I like is how easy it is to change effects. Two clicks change any effect into another. Now, the effects are limited right now, and some of them are buggy. But they're so fun to use that I find myself getting a lot out of them anyway.
