We are probably in the long tail for the smaller devs, so the updates will be spread out more.

Once iLok is AS-native, expect to see a flood of updates. As for the big fish, I imagine it's going to be a while before we see NI, Arturia, and friends go native. NI in particular. Same with the mainline DAWs. Going to be a long time. The older the codebase, the worse it's going to be.

Any products which rely strictly on Apple 64-bit APIs are a piece of cake to port compared to cross-platform C, C++, and assembly-centered code bases. That said, some apps have surprised me with how quickly they have been ported (Davinci Resolve, for example). That's evidence of a well-engineered codebase.

That said, I still predict that we will see Bitwig first.

isn't bitwig Java which makes it harder to port

Not entirely. I think their DSP is all C++. They do need a JVM, but they have options.

Some people managed to get Minecraft going with third-party JVMs like Azul Zulu. If it can work for Minecraft, it can work for Bitwig too.
I hate signatures too.

There probably are new updates, but maybe those of us who frequent this thread haven’t run across them yet. Most of what’s left for me are bound to iLok, so until that update happens about 50% of my plug-ins are in limbo. There are some instruments and DAWs I’m waiting on too, but those will probably take a bit longer. I still just run everything under Rosetta and it’s been working well for me.

AAS have announced native M1 support for their entire lineup. They've also dropped 32-bit support with these new versions, but the previous versions will remain available for those that need them.

Java is easier to port because you don't have to port it. You just run it on a compatible JVM. OpenJDK has already been ported. Bitwig is currently using Oracle Java. I'm hoping they abandon it for OpenJDK. There may be some 3rd party libraries they rely on which use the JNI, in which case that's probably the biggest hurdle.

But as others noted, the audio engine itself is not Java. The only part that is Java is the UI, and as far as I can tell, the UI does not use the JNI. It communicates with the audio engine on a local network socket.
