I will buy it if they implement that.

Well volume shape and side-chaining doesn't entirely get rid of the signal at it's maximum usually, so you still get an amount of "bleed" from that note that's being reduced. Also you have that "fade-in" sound which is interesting. So you have more of a pumping sound.

So sometimes I use side-chaining or shaping on the 4/4 even if there is no actual note on the kick beat. The reason is that it still ducks the note release overhang and still creates a fade-in pumped sound depending on the curve.

It's also btw really useful to use volumeshaping on hi-hats or even ever so slightly on clap sounds, it can give the same sound as compression but it's very even and controlled.

It comes up under nicky romero instead of cableguys with all my other cableguys plugins.. so now i have an extra dev entry line in logic's drop down AU list and it's the one that finally ticked over the list to make it too big to fit on my laptop screen, so decided it wasn't worth it since volume shaper already does it all anyway.

Can it be resold like any of the other cableguys stuff?
We don't have an official reselling policy, but as we haven't seen any misuse of reselling thus far, we always allowed resales without any fees. So, short answer: Yes, you can do that.

What changed in version 1.0.3?

Does anybody feel that Kickstart is a little to fast? It doesn't seem in sync with tempo to me. Cableguys Volume Shaper runs ok. I have the latest version 1.04.

You have to shift click the left and right arrows on the plugin to move the waveform back and forth for better timing. It's a great plugin actually. It's way better than using Volume Shaper in my opinion which has a terrible waveform drawing implementation. I tried over and over and could not draw a waveform without the damn thing jumping all over the place and doing it's own thing. I'd get the shape I want, try to tweak it and the freakin' thing turns into a saw wave! So I bring it back to what I want, then again I start moving stuff and it start contorting to different shapes that I don't want. Then throw in the fact that there are no manuals made for any of their effects plugins except an installation manuals. Not much on Youtube either. Really hard to believe the same company made these two plugins. I really wanted to buy from them. Very frustrating.

Ok. Thanks. I'll try that.

You're absolutely right about Volume Shaper. It's imposible to draw anything in there. :)

I am sorry to hear that you have such a bad user experience with our waveform editor. Even though there can be different opinions about usability and there are many who like the editor, unexpected behaviour is certainly not what we intended. Our aim is that our plugins are so easy to use that a manual is obsolete. Well, at least almost... - for all upcoming questions you can always contact me via our email contact@cableguys.de ;)

If you want, please write me what exactly irritates you about the editor so maybe I can try to give you some help (maybe there is a bug?) or we can also work out some ways to improve its usability. Thanks!

Now that I've given both a try, I'm kind of torn. Kickstart gives immediate results: slap it on, click a couple times and it works. VolumeShaper takes some fiddling with, and the interface, well -- sometimes it's totally intuitive and other times it's kind of a fight. But VolumeShaper does more.

I think I'm leaning toward VolumeShaper just because of the expanded time sync options, but I do love the immediacy of Kickstart. Hmmm.

I think one thing that might help with VolumeShaper is some options for dragging:

-- lock current drag selection between the nodes where it already is.
-- lock vertical dragging only (with shift, maybe)
-- lock horizontal dragging only (with Ctrl, maybe)

Also a tip for demoing in Maschine: put the effects on the master, not the group. That way if you overwrite the group with a different drum kit, the instance doesn't get hidden but stay open, nonfunctioning and uncloseable. (Maschine's still a bit quirky with VST implementation.)

Another tip: don't keep playing with it when you're supposed to be going to work. :dog:

Hey everyone!
So I'm running Logic and I am trying to figure out how to sidechain a non 4-on the floor syncopated kick pattern. When I go to the 1-shot or retrigger options it says that the In-host is only available in VST. And as you know Logic plugins are Audio Units, not VST's. So does that mean that there is no option of running Kickstart as a sidechain triggered by MIDI (or audio) in Logic? It seems so. And I am super bummed!!! The plugin is great but it means that can only use it for a 4-on the floor effect in Logic. No syncopated ducking for me. Ugh. If anyone knows a solution please let me know. Maybe Im doing something wrong

Yes, that is true. That is a limitation of the AU plugin format.

There is still the option to trigger Kickstart via the IAC driver. Please check this page for more informations:

I'm currently demoing KickStart, VolumeShaper and LFO tool...
KickStart is my favorite, because of it's simplicity.

Nonetheless, I have some clipping/crakling issues while ducking low frequencies (sub),
this can be fixed by getting rid of highs.
But concerning mid range, I can't get rid of high frequencies.

Is there a way to customize the shape a little bit ? Like adding a softer pre-roll to the curve.
I'm using it on simple MIDI trigger (once) and delay the hits on a negative value -7ms to get the synths "empty" before the kick. I see on the waveform that the audio is hardly droped to 0db, which created these artefacts. Is there no options for that ?

If not, I would go for VolumeShaper, but I really enjoy the simplicity of KickStart.

edit : it's for fast paced music (174 BPM, KickStart is in 1/8 mode, I concluded it's not suited in this case). So I go for VolumeShaper !

Surely the simplest solution would be to have Kickstart trigger based on incoming audio from, say, Klopfgeist. That's what I use to sidechain using Logic's compressor plugin. I'd love to use Kickstart in the same way as it has more control over the envelope shape, but the IAC thing is just a nightmare to use. Devious Machines' Duck does this and it works great.
