Dua Lipa's Don't Start Now is probably the pop production that's stood out most for me recently. The manipulation of space and dynamics that 'pops' the first line of the chorus ("Don't show up"), smash-cutting from lush space to hyperreal intimacy, is one of more startling production tricks I've heard recently.

it's getting heated out there. is a sample of a moog a moog? is a sequencer a player? is a "musician" a "performer"?

The album is quality pop & the dj mix version of the album gets points for having at least a little Masters at Work remix + various 'shout outs' to dance classics

It's a few years old but "Style" by Taylor Swift is an absolutely killer mix.

the article says one of the members spent time in a "Bavarian orphanage". this type of lie in the middle of a popular market money play looks dangerous, and scary to even read!

So many pop acts have come and gone, but once there was this band Milli Vanilli who was popular for nearly a year....

the las, many years ago i used to dj a bit at indie clubs, just back to back indie hits, no mixing bollocks...

there she goes, was one of those tracks, that made me laugh a little to myself, watching all the teens dancing with their beloved, acting like it's a love song.

joy division, love will tear us apart (the clue is in the title itself there) and rems the one i love were others.

as for the beatles, no, no drugs there.

Generally speaking, I like pop music, though I'm somewhat out of touch with current pop.

I temporarily have access to MTV Live (which is basically like classic MTV since they play videos). It's mostly pop with a hip-hop video here and there. The music I'm hearing doesn't suck, but it doesn't really make an impression either -- unremarkable, samey, and forgettable.

One of the few standouts for me is this unplugged version of Midnight Sky by Miley Cyrus. Her singing in this reminds me of Stevie Nicks.
