Hi. I've been playing with my toys again, trying to get a psy trance feel. I used a nasty sawtooth from Synth1 and put it through a distorter for the classic lead, making heavy use of rapid fire notes as per a lot of the old Israeli goa/psy and tried to build something around it.
I've called it "Crybaby Demon in Heaven"
The result is quite interesting, but I don't know if I can take it any further. I might have to abandon it like so many other baby tunes on my HD.
It's only 1:19 long, give it a listen!

I can't seem to make it clickable. BBcode's not working.
let me know what you think!

Sounds good so far peter. Really enjoy the melody. Keep working at it... I'm sure it would form a lovely tune. Nice stuff.

Cool tune. The lead and bass work nicely together, don't come off sounding stale. I like the echo on the lead.
Could consider adding a second lead part, much sparer than the first. Draw attention to a second melody, and essentially add another voice in a more prominent/higher frequency range. Given that it's psy you're after, maybe consider some kind of sampled acoustic instrument-type sound.
Also needs to be longer for this style (which I guess you've guessed). The idea of psy being dance-floor zone out, no? Forget the composition for a moment, close your eyes, and ask yourself if you're feeling it.
Maybe figure out an alternate variation on the rhythm for an extended middle part, change time, do an affected bassline solo or a new lead voice. Perhaps cliche, but you could figure out a way to do it beyond just the old 2-minute "da da da da da da" filter sweep as song crapola from 10 years ago.
I'm not sure I'm feeling the drums, though. I'd rather the beat feel a bit more alive. Perhaps a bit heavier sounding, or bit more varied fills or something. The specific sounds you used were kind of generic/a little soft sounding. Needs to be more whomping dancefloor stylee.
Cheers,
Steve

Yeah, it's not a full tune, it was just a concept mess-about. The last one I did had pretty good structure to dance to, but was nowhere near as involved in terms of the sounds used. I find it tough to get both.
I've changed the kick to something with more punch (haha!), done a high-pass filter on the hihats to crispen them up, and taken off some of the phase effect from them. It sounds better now, but the structure needs redoing, I just wondered what you lot'd think about the sound. A 2nd lead might be nice if I could slot it in and get some balance.
Dueling sawtooths!
... and maybe a nice phase warped string pad in the upper registers. hmm.
That's the problem with starting from a lead and trying to build around it, the structure gets f**ked up completely, or else the structure ruins the lead because I have to pull it apart.
