:tu: Nice heads-up!

I'm guessing that means the next plugin is not Valhalla Phaser, or whatever else was rumored?

Wow, it's the gift that keeps on giving ( i was given it as a gift).

Cool, ValhallaDelay is my favourite third-party delay!

Quartz is a delay mode as transparent as its namesake. The Quartz mode takes the filtering out of the feedback loop, and incorporates a nearly colorless limiter, so your repeats can be as bright and shiny as you want them to be. Perfect for looping, clean echoes, bright flanging, and all sorts of pristine sounds.

PhaserDDL incorporates a digital delay with a 4/6/12 stage phase shifter on the outputs. The phase shifters are in the feedback loops, which results in psychedelic echoes with long delays. Turn the delay time and delay feedback down to zero, and PhaserDDL is a great stand-alone phaser. The Age knob is swapped out for a Res knob, to control the phase resonance.

- Single: same modulation for left and right channels
- Dual: quadrature modulation (0 degrees in left, 90 degrees in right)
- Ratio: antiphase modulation (0 degrees in left, 180 degrees in right)
- PingPong: antiphase modulation (0 degrees in left, 180 degrees in right)
- Quad: 4 separate phase shifters, each running at a different rate, and each with antiphase modulation (0 degrees in left, 180 degrees in right). Select two or more Taps for a lush combination of phase shifting, or all 4 for a dense phase shifted stew.

In an Instagram reply, Sean posted:
Not ruling out a more full-featured mod plugin in the future (focused on vintage phasers, flangers, chorus, tremolo, that sort of thing). Just wanted to get some of this into Delay! Cool things can be had from combining delays and/or diffusion and phase shifting.

Nice! That sounds exactly like the ValhallaVintageMod I described earlier! Looking very forward to seeing something like that from Sean and co.

Wow, even better than I expected. I clamored from first mention of Valhalla Delay to be able to implement fx in the feedback loop and make it sort of a modular delay plugin.

A phaser has to be tuned just right to put it in a delay’s feedback path or else you create out of control unpredictable additional feedback resonance squeals that are not musically desirable or pleasant. I’ve encountered this with hardware delay pedals (DOD Rubberneck, Seymour Duncan Vapor Trail) that allow for fx inserts. But, one man’s noise/trash may be another mans music/treasure

Agreed. I’ve encountered the same when placing phasers in the feedback path of the Bitwig delay-4 device.

This is really cool. One of my favorite tricks is to put my MF-103 in the feedback loop with my Deluxe Memory Man 1100TT. The repeats get progressively more warbly and I love it. You can hear a subtle version of the effect at the beginning of this video:

I won't have a chance to try the update until later but Valhalla Delay is already a staple for me.

Ooh damn, Sean is always a step ahead of us. He addresses the out of control feedback resonance issue with just inserting a phaser into feedback loop, which he says was half the inpiration for incorporating it (apparently it is pretty hard to do so properly, not as simple as just sticking your average phaser into a delay feedback fx insert loop).

He just released a blog post about it a few hours ago

It's taken me a bit to really connect to ValDelay over some other options like AudioThing Outer Space that were more familiar to me (as corny as skeuomorphism can be sometimes it's helpful in transitioning from the physical world to a monitor) but it's come to be my go-to "just twiddle some knobs and see what happens" exploration tool. Phaser reverb? Hell yeah.

It's really great - I did not have Delay yet, but this totally pushed me over the edge. :hail:

I still wish Sean would develop a really good phaser with a 1:1 emulation of a Smallstone.... it's a shame that there is only one (!) emulation on the market, but it is not developed further and is buggy on 64bit systems (Bigrock by ArtsAcoustic).

As for the delay, I'll have to listen to the new version. To be honest, I didn't find the delay that amazing and prefer to use Echoboy or ReplikaXT. The PingPong mode always sounded strange with the Valhalla Delay.
