Apart from wear and tear if you keep having to plug in and plug out this usb dongle as you move from one computer to another and back, if the computers are not in the same room and you forget to take it with you it can quickly become a pita. Worse if a computer is home and one at office and they are miles apart and you forget to take it home overnight.

I avoid plugins that dont' allow two authorisations or some I buy twice if they are either cheap to buy twice, invaluable or I get a good deal from the developer.

i can understand your problem, personnaly i have a 30 usb port hub for the licence key and hardware synth, when i must use the "little" computer i use reaper plugin stock and if it work with reaper stock plugin it rulez with "better" plugin.

I have 2nd licenses for all my most used stuff. In the various sales they do, its still likely cheaper to do that than pay $225 per year to keep a 2nd license active via the WUP, if that's the only reason you're paying it.

LMAO, what a bunch of douchebags!

Oh and why hasn't that Waves shill simon.a.billington not been banned already?
I really love how anything about Waves, iLok & wagtunes always brings out the worst in people

Yeah I seriously don't know where he's getting his information from. Man, look at my history, I talk about many developers in AND REFER them if the occasion calls for it. There's absolutely no evidence to support his delusional theory and that is how and why I've never been banned. No evidence. Although I did get suspended recently for trying to resolve a dispute on an IK thread. I think they must have thought I was part of the actual argument?!?! I don't think that counts though.

Well guess every forum has its "trolls", just going to have to accept that.

Although, I will say thatif Waves did make me an offer, I confess I'd take it. I'm not in advertising, so I doubt my prospects there. Actually, I'll be very curious to find out how that whole thing works. I just know that when I've inquired about positions at iZotope & Plugin Alliance they said my location (Australia) was a problem. So I just stopped looking into those kind of things.

Anyway, back on topic...

I do think its a bit annoying with that second license only working with a valid WUP, you might even consider it a bit 'cheap". But is it?? Really?? Maybe. I don't know. I think thats up to how everyone wants to view it.

What I do know is that Waves finally yielded under public pressure and gave us a second license that we didn't have yesterday. Given time and a bit more pressure they may just drop that restriction as well. I don't know. But if you guys think it's worthwhile complaining about, maybe you should. Drop them line and the more people that do it, the more they might give under pressure.

In the meantime, though, when you consider it, you do get addional benefits with the WUP now like access to exclusive offers and their masterclasses. That's the kind of thing you'd probably be paying a membership for at other places, so I guess it kind of balances out. It may just be worth the price of admission.

I don't have a second computer to use a second license, but I'm considering it just for those deals and those courses.

Personally I think it's stupid to use anything related to network interface for authorization as there's so many things that can constantly change.
Yes, it is very stupid.

I like their products, but I would like to be able to use them...

All you need to know is how to change your MAC adress and you're good... ;-)
(And yes, extremely stupid from them, I agree)

They should go back to iLok
This is the same method MJ used when he was working on Anthony Marinelli's Thriller.

How can I do it?

It was a docking station that I do not have access to anymore.

You don't neeed access to the old network device -you only need its MAC-adress, which Waves Central will tell you
(Licenses -> disconneted devices - the row of numbers and letters below the device name is the MAC adress)

If you can't change the MAC adress (sometimes it's not possible with some devices), you somehow need to add another "network adapter" . That may be a USB-Wifi adapter or some WIFI-Routers register as network adapter too (which is part of why the Waves method is so stupid - Waves Central may believe that the machine changed just because you use a different method to connect to the internet - I kid you not - happened to me). You can then move the licences to the cloud, remove the adapter and afterwards move them back to the machine.

So far I always managed to (re-)access my licenses in the end, once even after a computer had died on me which they were sitting on and even though the machine I wanted to use them on did not let me change the MAC adress of its built-in WIFI-adapter (Lenovo laptop iIrc)

You should be able to recover your licenses if you haven't already done so in the past year. See https://www.waves.com/support/reactivat ... r-licenses

Post

Yes, but DON'T if you can avoid it - better save that option just in case as you can do so only once a year... I think that should really be your last ressort.

"Each product license can be recovered only once per year. "

Recovered?
Why should my license be recovered? What happened to it? I did not do anything.
Waves owes me this license.
And if they delete it 10 times per year, then they must replace it ten times per year.

I will use this recovery, if something happens to my computer.
(But this is not the first time in 12 months, so it would not help.)

I still have the same notebook.
I just do not have the docking station with two external monitors any more.
Should I be punished for that?

I did not know the license was for a docking station, monitor or mouse.
I thought it was for my computer.

This is meant in case the device that had the license file on it(some disk volume or usb drive) is broken or the file is lost.

I don't like it much either. Fabfilter uses a license code you just paste in to your plugin. Valhalla a license file. Those are all easy to backup, but Waves wants to do it this way. :\ I'd be uneasy too if that many folks had copied my plugins in the past.

The problem is, people can still do that(if they find the 'w are Z'), so honestly I'm not seeing the point all that much any more. It could be safer for the user with just a little more risk on Waves side.

Even Spectrasonics is fine with me having installed Omnisphere several times on new machines over the years. Their challenge/response is fine for me.
Will mix for fun
