Main thing for me is...

1) the sounds 'grabbed' me.

2) They created a narrative in my head...weird one, maybe, but it was there!

Thanks. I'm glad that the pieces spoke to you. Even when working with minimal sounds, I try to come up with compositional changes to keep things interesting.
While the sounds are simple, they use an interesting character. While everything was mixed into a cheap pedal mixer, the output was recoded through a Neve pre and EQ. The cheap mixer added a louder noise floor which helped glue the synths together a bit better. I used a stereo spring reverb as a send to give it some depth and then used the API 2500/5500 on the mix bus. This combo can make anything sound huge and in-your-face.

The first two are my first recordings with two synths from Lorre-Mill, the Double Knot

That is a cool little synth. I like the concept of synths that are constrained and meant to be engaged with live in a narrow context as opposed to the other end of the spectrum where you have generic monsters, e.g. workstations.

That said, nearly $700 is a lot to pay for the limited functionality. I get it, there's a limited demand and so you can't really get to the point where the economies of scale help to any degree. So you need little boutique manufacturers to make stuff like this so that musicians looking for stuff off the beaten path will be able to buy it.

Definitely cool though, and thanks for pointing it out.

I like supporting small companies but sometimes I'll find a great deal on Craigslist or MW. I'm always on the look out for interesting instruments. I had tried this combo at Perfect Circuit a while back but I figured I wouldn't get much out of them unless I had a larger banana system. I'm still surprised by how expressive this pair can get.

Very cool. The exp-2 reminded me of Raymond Scott, a playful little piece. Lavender is quite ominous but in a good sort of way.
