And now on topic.

My all time favourite was Guru, I had updated to Geist but somehow it was a different experience and eventually I‘ve stopped using it on new projects.

Today I use Groove Agent which I picked up in a sale. It offers some of the Guru experience and can go quite deep if needed.

Some weeks ago I bought my second DAW after being a Cubase user for more than 25 years. It appears FL Studio‘s channel rack could additionally become used quite often to quickly setup percussion patterns. It‘s a simple as it could be without the need for a dedicated plugin (when sample mangling is not needed).

MDrummer is another solid choice. Its interface is a little bit weird. But this is true monster for both acoustic and synthetic drums. It has excellent sequencer, incredible live performance capabilities and plenty of mixing tools included. If you have some time, check this guide https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=knE_dpRAw ... 3fThP&t=0s
I'm having a lot of fun!

Break tweaker looks interesting. How is the gui size? It's fairly old and has a lot of parameters.

For example Drumazon is only readable for me with the magnifier.
We jumped the fence because it was a fence not be cause the grass was greener.

When you click the magnifier in this link, you will see exactly the size. It is small but readable for me (on 2k 32" monitor).

Anyway, I'm not sure I will use it. It is a good drums machine with samples/synth and several expansions. So, it is flexible, but little bit messy for me. I don't know I might give it another go.

still Linplug RMIV for me, found it, demoed it and never looked back.
And neither forward to RMV :hihi:
i tried to love RMV, but for me it was just overkill with all the added
loop junk that i already did with my DAW, EnergyXT2. RMIV had the
basic features and simplicity i preffered. and for some reason the RMV gui was
real sluggish under EXT2.
I agree on the RMV. After updating I kept using RMIV until I moved on to Live's Drum Rack and Microtonic.
Too bad I can't get rid of them now.

XO looks like on my BF radar.

Bitwigs's Drum Machine, Microtonic, Geist 1, and Reason's Kong.
Geist 2 never clicked with me.

  • Modular hardware for more unusual sounds; harsh FM plinks, chaotic noise hats, ringing filters, choppy samples... Reaktor or Reason can do this nearly as well, but hardware is more immediate and fun.
Im really close to selling my modular and going to Reaktor. I agree that hardware is more reactive and fun, but we are talking $200 versus over 2 grand in investment. And I feel like Reaktor can probably do 100x more than my modular. Anyway, just interesting that you brought that up.
For me, modular is more hands on and fun... I start recording in my DAW and make lots of drum/percussion sounds with my modular gear... then chop it up in the DAW to make drum kits.

I have Reaktor and could certainly do the same, but I find the workflow tedious and feels like a chore, not a pleasure... YMMV
I used to say the same thing, but I got over it. I enjoy making music, it doesn’t have to be hands on all the time, the joy comes from quickly getting the results I want.

Sorry, haven't looked into the midi possibilities. Been sampling clips mainly ...
