Overview

The KH-EQ1 is a semi-parametric 5-band EQ like no other. It features rich-sounding frequency band controls that allow you to add color to each band while encouraging creative sound shaping with its highly musical functionality.

The KH-EQ1 - the second part of the Koen Heldens signature series - is a professional studio EQ with a twist, which features harmonic per-band saturation and our innovative, stepless Mid<->Stereo<->Side router.

Each license includes custom presets created by Koen himself, giving you the professional studio experience you’ve been waiting for.

It is the perfect addition to any producer’s arsenal, and it’s the ideal tool for adding richness and creativity to your productions!

Features

SEMI-PARAMETRIC 5-BAND EQ
The KH-EQ1 features five fully controllable symmetrical frequency bands between 20Hz and 33kHz, with individual gain controls between -18dB and +18dB. Each band moves independently, allowing for maximum customization.

PER-BAND SATURATION (HARMONIC DISTORTION)
Add richness to your sound by adding harmonic distortion to each individual frequency band using the saturation dials. This allows for complete control over the distortion without compromising all other frequency bands - perfect for adding that authentic-sounding analog vibe to your productions!

AUTO LISTEN FUNCTION FOR PRECISE FREQUENCY SELECTION
With the Auto Listen function, the gain control automatically solos the changes applied to each band. This makes it much easier to stay in control during your EQing process.

INNOVATIVE MID<>STEREO<>SIDE ROUTER
This function allows for M/S cascades or surgical stereo equalization. The stereo input signal is decoded to the middle and side with the possibility of blending them with the original stereo input via the stepless control.

HIGH DPI/RETINA SUPPORT
The user interfaces support high pixel density on both Windows and Mac OS systems, giving you the most enjoyable user experience on high DPI displays.

About

The KH-EQ1 is the second part of the Koen Heldens Signature Series, following in the footsteps of the KH-COMP1 Signature Compressor, that has been vowed both by our valued customers and press. Koen Heldens is a multi-platinum selling, American Music Award, and Billboard Music Award-winning mixing engineer and producer, best known for working on the most streamed song in 24 hours with XXXTentacion, among other prominent names in the music industry, such as Trippie Redd, Missy Elliott, and Timbaland.

Koen is the expert when it comes to producing some of the best and most-streamed albums in the hip-hop genre - and while his experience and understanding of music production allow him to create and shape the emotional foundation of a song, he also has a deep understanding of the technical aspects and limitations of each plug-in he holds in his arsenal.

The collaboration between Koen and Black Rooster Audio quickly evolved into a fruitful creative partnership, resulting in a one-of-a-kind plug-in series that is up to the standards of one of the greatest producers of the moment. We are proud to have Koen use our plug-ins extensively in every mix and to have co-created this Signature Series with him.

Might grab this one. pretty good at conditioning signals pre any kind of heavier nonlinear processing. my only criticism is the gain staging is way off. if you have the plugin even registering on the input meter it does some really weird, undesirable shit to the phase. i thought it was multiband artefacts at first from crossovers until i padded it to about -35dB at input before the plugin. the needles are barely registering, but i am still getting a lot of nice, transparent saturation across the bands like a proper active EQ without the phase/ group delay smush :hyper:

Per-band saturation is fairly unique and I can imagine very useful - but zero latency = no oversampling for the aliasing the saturation will cause?

Is the highest band a shelf or peak filter?

The saturation per band on this is awesome! Using 2 instances can yield some great saturated tones!

Great job BRA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Another killer plugin!!!

To plugins maybe, but most active EQ's tend to have op-amps or other non-linear components amplifying each band. Some wont saturate all that noticeably, but if you removed it, you'd definitely notice and you can also pad them with gain to find were there breaking point is

As for plugins i know a few that work this way. Spectre does it for sure, HorNet's ChannelStrip and SW34EQ, FuseAudioLab's VQA154 does it, and i haven't tried them but i would imagine that Brainworx desk models do, as the desks themselves do, Audio Assaults FreakQ305, oh, and Add Chris's MackEQ to the list as well

Thank you, that answers my question : ) Smooth too, no cramping - I mean, unless you count the anti-alias filter :P

Anyway, Black Rooster get my thumbs up.

My apologies, I have wrongly copied the paragraph -- it is not latency free and uses oversampling to cover the aliasing. You are right.

Studio One reports 0.7 milliseconds at 44.1 Khz and 0.3 at 96Khz sample rates.
The combination of saturation per band and dry/wet is just awesome. It sounds absolutely great to me. :tu: :tu: :tu:

Very interesting. That per-band saturation, clean operation and m/s blending is an intriguing combination. Testing.
Will mix for fun

Bought last night. When you get the gain staging right, the per band saturation is just amazing at tucking away too protruding dynamics, like transients for instance in an unobtrusive way. I don't even touch the EQ as i don't really like it boosting or cutting and it doesn't beat out my current workhorse EQuilibrium and the Neve channel in UAD, just the per band saturation. It's worth the price for that alone though

I can't quite tell you how much fun I'm having with this EQ... right when I thought I was good with all my 89 eqs I already own...
