I was running a scarlett solo 3d gen before then recently switched to 2i2 second generation.
Ive noticed that the 2i2 first of all is louder, but also that the output sounds different on my headphones.
Is this something intended or is the 2i2 broken?
It sounds slightly more dirty with the 2i2 (not distorted), which actually makes it easier to mix but im curious to why this is.

Maybe they didn't repack exactly the same thing and called it next gen?

Im not really sure if the outputs of soundcards sound different (on the same speakers). I guess the biggest difference are always the inputs, the pre-amps and AD DA converters. That said, I just realized that your daw output is basicly also converted to analog so it might sound different. oh well im confused now

some headphones(with higher ohms?/price) need higher output from the amp to work correct. as you say 2i2 is louder, would have tought thats it, but:
"scarlett solo/ 2i2" focusrite website says the specs are the same. (don´t know if generation is right)
