Thank you, Fedor. It's amazing how large and full that synthesizer's sound is.

Mostly just the vicious cycle of chasing updates and random bugs, which would inevitably affect both apps and peripherals. Too many cooks, as they say. Combined with Apple's ever-changing protocols, I just got tired of it.Fedor_Tkachev wrote: Tue Apr 13, 2021 12:31 pmThank you! What made you give up the iPad rig?John the Savage wrote: Tue Apr 13, 2021 12:14 pm Good sound. Very emotive.
Quanta is a very capable soft synth. Makes me miss the iPad rig. Well, sort of.
Okay, not really, but you know what I mean.![]()
Cheers!
It's a shame really. I still have the iPad and my iConnectAudio4+, and I love the potential of the apps I have. In terms of using it within the greater context of my live rig, however, and interfacing with other hardware, etc. Ya, it simply didn't inspire confidence.
Cheers!

Mostly Pigments 3 and one part of Surge 1.9. Kind of a happy accident)

Here is a new demo of the Cobalt 8M with LinnStrument. The patch is a modified version of a preset with aftertouch modulating the filter and the Y-axis modifying the mix of two algorithms. Drums were played on Zendrum controlling a custom BFD3 kit.

I've been waiting for a demo of the Modal synths; either the Argon or the Cobalt with the LinnStrument... Are you running straight into the Cobalt via the DIN connection, Jeremy?
Any issues to report?
Just out of curiosity, what made you chose the Cobalt over the Argon?
Anyway, good playing, as always.
Cheers!

John:
Thanks! I am running straight into the Cobalt DIN. No issues to report in terms of functionality with LinnStrument. I tweaked presets so I found myself running out of modulation slots pretty quickly. I don't see that as an issue once folks make their own MPE patches from scratch. It sounds fantastic. This unit is a loaner but if I were to buy one, I would pick the Cobalt because I have the Hydrasynth which covers a lot of the same ground as Argon. The feature about Cobalt I like the most is the algorithms and the ability to morph them. The module is even smaller than I expected which is a good thing - it does not take up much space and you still have easy access to most parameters. I have not tried the iOS and computer apps for programming yet - I will try them out before sending it back. I suspect that it will be easier to manage the mod slots using the app than the front panel.

Yes the Cobalt sounds great, I opted for Argon8M and am very happy with it also.
FYI I only use the USB connection. Modal makes for great MPE integration, but of course some expression tweaks are required.

I'm going to have to revisit these two synths, I think, and see how they compare. I'm still considering a Hydrasynth, but I like the size and form-factor of these modules better. Sound wise, I'm leaning towards the Argon; but the Cobalt does seem a little more straight-forward. Perhaps that's just because I've spent more time with subtractive synthesis.
Hmm... What to do, what to do?
Cheers!

Thanks, Roger! John - the good news is there are so many great choices! You really can't go wrong with Argon, Cobalt, or Hydrasynth. It will just depend on the sound you want.

Sorry, Jeremy, one last question, if you’ve got the time... Is MPE a global setting on the Cobalt or is it saved per patch?
Cheers!

John I'll chime in, the answer is yes, there's a global setting and there can be MPE per patch.
Again this is on my Argon 8m, but I would guess the cobalt would be the same.

That's great news. Thanks, gents.
That tidbit of information may have just eliminated the Hydrasynth from my wishlist; unless, of course, ASM fixes the bug that causes problems with mono-legato patches when the synth is in MPE mode (which is a global setting only on the Hydra).
There may be an Argon 8m in my not-so-distant future...
Or maybe a Cobalt.
Cheers!

John - My apologies. I was playing the Cobalt today and it appears that the MPE mode is a global not per patch setting (at least in the Cobalt). I can't find anything about it in the manual. I would double check with Modal to confirm. I had saved patches with different MPE mode settings but as I was moving through patches today, it seems to be a global setting.
