you can always use 1 channel of maths for that, leaving the other 3 free for...

as for 4 vs 1.
it's nice if for example you want strega, short fade in, filter long fade...
you need 2.
for the price of 2 singles, you get 4

obviously space is the issue, need to decide yourself there im afraid. which is more important for your needs?
someone else may know of smaller envelope modules? im pretty sure dreadbox to one, with just 4 faders, but it's 4 envelopes, you just set each one, then move to the next, in like 10/12 hp (might not be them, think it was toonertik bought that early last year?)
I know I'd like to not menu dive on envelopes. The dreadbox sounds like it'd perform similar to the Meris pedals with alt functions. Probably a bit easier, but I'm guessing it'd still be the same problem that in and out of each change, the setting will initially jump.

I'm definitely not opposed to a better deal for more! I just have to play around with how to make this work. I'm thinking that after either 3 or 4 Pods I'll graduate to a proper case. Ideally, it's after Pod 3 and then make the jump, but it's early.
Right now, only the Tip Top Fold Processor is 100% expendable but I do have some room to play.

I'm thinking this one might work for now https://www.modulargrid.net/e/doepfer-a-140-2v

x2 ADSR. It's a tight squeeze 8hp, but can't be worse than what I'm used to on the SE-02. The price is not bad.

yeah i get that, hands on control!
again, just throwing ideas in the pot :hihi:

it is tough at first, trying to build the basic modulation guts of a synth, hard to know how many vcas you need (like cables, always seems to be one more than you have...) and how many lfos/what shapes, envelopes, how many? how many stages?
do i need a mixer (internal) or 3?
oh, now i have to trigger all this...

but, you only really do all that once, yeah you might upgrade bits in the future, but the utils are all pretty similar.
not like the fun stuff :hihi: where one week, you want all the lovely organic oscillator sounds, week after glitchy digital noise! so the whole rig could change

2 is probably enough for starters anyway, one amp one filter

and yup, doepfer prices are very reasonable. do less of the flash modules we all love, but for the standard bits, can't go wrong.
well built good quality, if a little plain looking and the names are hard to remember

No worries, I'm gonna need the help, so temptation be damned! I'm still working from your earlier make noise suggestions Contour, Dynamix and Function but it seems they've discontinued them all. I can still find them 2nd hand (some at crazy prices).

And is there any reason to not pick up an A-140 Doepfer ADSR? I'll have to dig back in this thread for the conversation about different ADSR choices, but I know that I'm missing having one available (at least one for now).
The Doepfer ADSR's are great, and reasonably priced. I use two of the A-140's.

MN Contour is an ADSR+ a couple of tricks, as I had mentioned previously.

indeed, if asr/ar is enough for you, also some choices there :tu:

I happen to have also been looking into simple envelope modules :D

ADSRs are overrated, 80% of the time I just want AD or AR and the other stage just gets in the way. That's one reason
i went modular! Have been using Rampage which is a dual slew gizmo like Maths, but wouldn't mind adding a simple compact envelope to free it up. My shortlist is:
  • Ian Fritz 2x AD/AR - 4HP, 2 channels, DIY-only, switchable AD/AR
  • Ladik C-041 Dual AD/AR - 4HP, 2 channels switchable AD/AR, controls look a bit cramped
  • Ladik C-012 dual up/down lag Interesting dual slew limiter in 4HP; each channel has one speed control and you can choose whether it affects up/down/both. Of course for independent up/down you could use both parts in series.
  • NLC Triad - 8HP, 3 channels of AR (need a gate-trig converter to use as AD)
  • NLC Tracky Dacks - 8HP, 1 channel of AR with voltage control and EOC trigger (which allows looping)
  • NLC Sly Grogan - 8HP, 1 channel AR, one CV controlling speed, interesting/unusual resonant behaviour which can give a decay-like burst stage or work as an LFO.

i like the look of that hex one posted by wtg, the mixed out puts could be fun, stepping through the 3/6 1 by 1 with different settings, bit more variety to the bleeps n bloops 8)

Nice find on the Dynamix! I've bought several things from them (including the greyscale plate for the moddemix). I swear it was out-of-stock earlier. I've been looking for this since you mentioned sidechaining/ducking.

For Function... Is there something that can't be replicated with Maths (and I probably should include combined with the Slope of 0-Coast)?

This is one of the ones that first got me. I definitely can't sing like she can but it gave me lots of ideas! :o

The delivery date is approaching!

Yes. Mainly, (but not exclusively) the 'hang' input function. 'Slope' is very similar to function, or almost one channel of maths also, so combined would be pretty close, yet uniquely different in several 'features' to a maths, and without the guilt of not using maths to its full potential.

All at less than half the hp (8 vs 20), and very slightly ($15.00) more than half the cost of a maths.
