Reason 12 had one big goal in mind: level up the Rack experience. The Rack is really the core of what makes Reason unique and where a lot of sounds and music is made. We wanted to make that look and feel just right while making it even more immediate and powerful to make music with...

...Reason has always been and will continue to be all about the fun, inspiring music you can make with a rack of great instruments, effects, and awesome sounds. Today Reason is used by more people than ever before, from being the centerpiece of your setup to the go-to plugin for new sounds, and I'm truly excited about what Reason 12 brings to the table. You can buy or upgrade to Reason 12 when it releases on September 1st and if you're a Reason+ subscriber you'll get the new stuff as soon as it's available.

Key updates:
- high-res & scaleable GUI
- new advanced Sampler
- (much) improved Combinator, with user-customisable GUI
- improved & faster browser

Reason+ users will be getting the new features sooner ( :smack: ).

Doesn't sound like there's anything new for the actual Reason DAW... :dog:

Oh goody. But yeah... More devices... Woo. What about vst3 support, folder tracks, ect.

Post

Yeah it all seems geared toward the rack plugin rather than the daw. Not sure that a high-rez/scalable GUI is really a massive feature in 2021, I mean, aren't they all?

Well, it is because they're 3-4 years behind everyone else.

Also, seeing how Mattias avoids answering questions about sequencer & mixer updates, seems like there's none planned - at least not for 12.0:

That does seem to be the case, which is unfortunate for those that use it as a daw rather than a VST.

Will get it for the GUI update provided they don’t try and screw ‘legacy users’ too much on upgrade pricing

Good additions, but serious, no sequencer update? That is still like using daw from 2008 or something. Do they use Reason to make music at all? Sequencer is where all the magic happens. You spend most of the time on there. It's always amazing me, how this company manage to disappoiting people with these announcements. I mean, there is a good and needed things coming, but blaah. Spend more time to make big improvements, so people don't need to get disappointed all the time. Move the release to next year and spend that 6 months to improve the sequencer.

To me it looks like they're actively trying to push people out from using Reason DAW towards Reason Rack Plugin and the fact that Reason+ will get the new featues as soon as they're ready (i.e. before Sept 1st) also points to them favouring Reason+ subscribers over perpetual license holders.

Both are not new, really. But it gets clearer & clearer that's the case with every new info coming out of Reason Studios HQ :(

@antic604 I think that's a pretty accurate analysis.

Still looking forward to the high Rez update though...

Yeah, me too. I'm in the beta and it indeed makes all the difference, especially on a laptop where I need to use 125% scaling. But I'm not getting any new REs during May Madness sale that just started today, despite really wanting Friktion, Algoritm and Pattern Mutator :(

Graphics were already announced. Bigger combinator is good news. Apart from that, looks like nothing that people have been asking for?

No movement on VST3 is a bit worrying really, now that many developers are dropping VST2.

I like the relatively old-school samplers in Reason. But I guess I can see why people would want an alternative.

I bet they try and charge through the nose for the update to push people onto Reason+ :ud:

Post

so

scaleable GUI. i don't use scaling on windows (o well sometimes for one plugin on one monitor..).
o well, i start again..

scaleable GUI, without windows scaling, works? like resizing a vst plugin??

sampler is nice.

but it is more 11.5 update, than a 12 version.

Post

and no plans to give scalable gui to reason 11 users? maan they must be really desperate...
its almost like implementing midi after 50 years and telling folks this is da shitz nowq damn pay it ;D

I guess this time they're thinking :

If only. Bitwig, Presonus and Image-Line all released high-resolution versions of their DAWs back in 2015.
