I just do what I can and try to learn more and be a better musician, artist, singer, remixer, dj, whatever i put my mind to.

Hehe, the last time i was in T.O. I came was only there for like 2 days for this thing on Much Music and then I had to fly out to L.A. to do Science. Those two days were TOOO short!!! Toronto (and i don't want to piss off anyone in Atlanta or Seattle or San Francisco or Philly) is probably my favourite city in North America. (then come the others I mentioned). I have a long but unknown history with toronto. My parents used to go there for summer vacation from when I was a baby to a pre-teen. It is really familiar to me and I get a bigsmile every time i see the airport or roll up on it via the QEW.

By the way, there is this Chinese food place that I wonder if it is still there...It lights stuff on fire and then serves it to you. It's like a 5 star restaurant but I forget the name do you know?

And i'd be happy to climb your CN Tower and explore the underground with you. Perhaps we can even chill on the beach? (well this time of year we'd be chillin' literally!)

We certainly like our compression don't we?

Lots of extra headroom to be gained here if the low energy was brought under control. To get these kind of tracks loud and clean you have to really get brutal with the deep lows...18db per octave lo-cut filter at 28hz and kiss it all goodbye. And that's just a start. Loudness potential is a mix thing, all the smash happens in the middle.

Lots of limiting distortion going on here too, lass. Sounds like Stevie Marcussen had a go at it.

Less aggressive limiting would open this up more and create a more powerful contrast when the hook hits. Lots more slam as well. Kind of a 'love your dynamics and your dynamics will love you' thing.

Lovely approach you took to this cover and, as usual for you, nice guitar playing/tones.

Ok. Well like I said, I'm no engineer. I will try again with your suggestions but I'm giving the track to Kriminal track by track (MINUS the vocals) to mix as he wishes.

I really have to confess I don't really understand how compression and limiting work. I did roll off the eq below 50hz but i guess not enough (or the bass track was just too loud). Nevertheless 30,000+ people liked it.. Overcompressed as it is. But still i'd like to do better and replace that with a better version.

So thank you Kriminal for the offer and everyone else (including you kilroy) for the advice

Well, there's been a fair bit of praise so I suppose I can say that I'm not that impressed considering the amount of feedback this tune has got.

I actually love Evanescence, like some of Missy's tunes and Nirvana would definately rate high on my rock/metal list (which is quite short btw). Heck I actually really liked an RnB tune Lady J posted but......this

The vocals are too low in the mix first of all, most Amy's. Missy's vocal is pretty good for the tune, but I suppose "heart shaped box" never was one of my Nirvana favorites. Do a "Smells like" mash please

Amy Lees vocals don't add to the tune imo, and I do actually like her voice a lot. Actually went to their concert last year.
Oh well, you can't please everyone.
