Do they compare?
In the way that they both strive for very clean reverb, yes. Verberate has a nicer GUI with simpler controls, not as possibly overwhelming as Nimbus, which in turn is more flexible, but with less CPU, and probably even better sounding, so Nimbus or Phoenix have replaced Verberate most of the time for me.

Thank you. I used to use Verberate but Pro-R and Valhalla are the ones I tend to reach first.

i just went for VintageVerb instead of Nimbus. Gotta hand it to Valhalla, default preset is f**king magic lol.
Might get the plate someday, but it's not grown on me as much as Room and VV.
Delays and shimmer don't phase me.

VintageVerb and Room are more than sufficient I think. I wanted a change and the only reverbs I could resell were Valhalla reverbs, so sold VVV and selling Room now. Bought NIMBUS only because I could get it super cheap.

By the way, I am sure you would have Soundtoys Little Plate. :)

The Island Treasure-Cave GUI is a little funny but the concept sounds pretty cool. Thanks for pointing that out.

For anyone who's using Mac, Wayverb https://reuk.github.io/wayverb/introduction.html looks like pretty much the craziest, maybe coolest concept for a reverb design I've ever seen. Implementation? No idea, can't test it, but it was fascinating as hell to read about.

I tried SoundToys a couple of times, but they sorta feel dated. Cool, but nothing that really sold it to me.

I know, I DID. It's hands down the best plate i tried. :D
I just don't use plate all that much. Well surely get it sooner or later.

isn't especially something like a plate exactly the contrary to "versatile" ?

just curious...

You are quoting me without context here. :)

The discussion was about Valhalla VintageVerb and Room, and someone mentioned Plate, so I assumed he would probably have it in the form of Little Plate.

So, it was never a suggestion for a "versatile" reverb.

Valhalla Room + VintageVerb is around the price of other boxes ($99) and they are well-suited for a wide range of tasks.
