Also some of the worst and most flat sounding albums. That dude likes to slam compressors and tape decks a bit much for my taste. His modern stuff sounds really dated in a bad way, like a man struggling to be relevant. Super corny. That said, he does have some amazing songs and great production as well. Sort of hit and miss with Todd. Nice that he’s finally in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, though.melomood wrote: Fri May 21, 2021 2:14 am Deserved for more than his own output. Which ELO tune did he write? I hadn’t heard that. I actually met him in 1989. He was super nice, very shy. The band I was producing was rehearsing in Hun sound in San Rafael, CA and he was also. Gearing up for a tour of Nearly Human. I actually hung out with Lyle Workman a bit during that time. Also a super nice guy and great player. I’m so glad the band I was working for failed. They turned out to be such huge jerks. Oh wait! I failed too!
[edit]Ah, Do Ya. Not written by Todd, but written by Jeff Lynne and performed by The Move. I forgot that was done by The Move. That’s a great album.

Do Ya was the song. Oh you met him once? That's nice for you. I don't recall gushing over his 90's output.zerocrossing wrote: Fri May 21, 2021 5:20 amAlso some of the worst and most flat sounding albums. He's an example of a good recording artist flying under the radar despite having hits like "Hello,It's Me" & " Bang On The Drum All Day' because the bulk of his work is non top 40 Rock/ Progressive Rock
His best work imho was in Todd Rundgren's Utopia ( with Roger Powell on keyboards)
Underrated & underexposed while people cry about no good music being around because they didn't hear any at some music award show
It just occurred to me someone around here might recognize his song 'Born To Synthesise' from Simian Mobile Disco sampling him on their track 'Synthesise'

Yeah, after a point his stuff becomes very uneven, though there’s still some great tracks among them.
Fun fact: He’s Liv Tyler’s real father.
