Not sure if there are any His Name is Alive fans here. But in case there are, their new website launches some time in the coming week, and it will have downloadable releases.

Cool! That song 'Are We Still Married?' still haunts me to this day!
The guy seems like a really interesting dude, but sadly I always missed the music when I was in a record store et al to check him out more. Always one of those get home and remember 'His Name Is Alive'!

I can remember a song called Breathe The Air And Walk Around on a sampler CD back n 92 and I was blown away! I thought they were a bit of a one hit wonder, curious to see what they are like now

Really liked what they were doing up to 'Home is in Your Head' circa 1991. Didn't they start flirting with dodgy R&B at some point after that?

one of my long term faves.
though stylistically all over the place; early 'cocteau'-ish period, beach boys impersonation on 'stars on esp', modern r&b on fort lake/my blues... never mind all those cds from a couple of years ago that i never got around to checking out...
thanks for the tip,

I used to listen to Livonia constantly.
Now I think it's a tad ...ermm.... fey (!?)
They were very important to me at the time, though.
Never heard any of their other stuff

Indeed, but I have to admit I quite like the dodgy R&B.dystonia_ek wrote:Really liked what they were doing up to 'Home is in Your Head' circa 1991. Didn't they start flirting with dodgy R&B at some point after that?
Actually some of his jazz-like instrumental stuff on Time Stereo lately has been fantastic. Hard to get now, but the Brown Rice CD is great. I must admit, though, I'm a bit of a HNIA junkie.

So hey, Shamann - I too am a bit of a HNIA junkie - "Livonia" was actually the first CD I ever bought, and I've followed them through the years - used to live in NW Ohio, so I'd get up to Detroit to see them at the Gold Dollar pretty frequently.Actually some of his jazz-like instrumental stuff on Time Stereo lately has been fantastic. Anyway, I just (today!) received their new limited-edition box-set Cloud Box (http://www.timestereo.com/specials.php?nice_day=38). Unfortunately, a lot of the albums (including Brown Rice) don't have track listings, and since they're CD-Rs I can't get the info from the internet. Do you have track listings for Brown Rice (or any of the others)? Or, alternately, do you know of any dedicated HNIA forums where I might find this info?
Thanks in advance... Looking forward to hearing from you.

Those Quay Brothers-directed videos were pretty amazing. ('Are We Still Married')

Always good to hear from another HNIA fan.
I'll check my Brown Rice copy at home. They sold it for maybe a week as unlisted earlier this year, so it has different packaging than the box version. Off the top of my head, can't remember track listings, but will definitely confirm later.
So you were one of the 50 for the Box. I could never bring myself to go for either of the boxes. Most of what's in them that interests me has been/will be released seperately. The Dreem Up album released as a download last week was the only in the Box I was itching for. I've come to a point where I have put my completist inclinations to bed. Too hard keeping up.
I'd guess the absence of tracks was a design choice, but if you ask nicely in an email to Time Stereo, they might give you some kind of answer.
Davin has been very pleasant to deal with in the past.
Cheers,
Steve

Checked Brown Rice. All white, no notes.moblash wrote:Do you have track listings for Brown Rice (or any of the others)?
Not sure of the other discs, but here's the tracklisting for Dreem Up:
01. Seven
02. Boy
03. Jody
04. Jane
05. Silver
06. Affection
07. Young
08. Night
09. Man
10. People
11. Long
Which, since there all covers, equates to:
01 Seven (Peter Green - "Seven Stars")
02 Boy (Tiger Trap - "Prettiest Boy")
03 Jody (Masters Of Reality - "Jody Sings")
04 Jane (Jane Siberry - "Taxi Ride")
05 Silver (Leadbelly - "Bring Me Li'l Water, Silvy")
06 Affection (The Carter Family - "Fond Affection")
07 Young (Neil Young - "Harvest")
08 Night (Big Star - "Nightime")
09 Man (Charlie Feathers - "Man In Love")
10 People (unknown)
11 Long (The Beatles - "Long, Long, Long")

Hey shamann - thanks for the info. Yeah, I got the Cloud Box home last night and dug in. There's some really fun stuff in there, but I do KIND OF wish I had some of your restraint - not sure I needed 45 minutes of Detroit auto horns blaring on disc 9 for instance...shamann wrote:Checked Brown Rice. Oddly enough, Dreem Up was one of a couple of the discs that HAD track information, but I'm pretty jazzed to actually have the artist info for these tracks - I wondered who some of those were covers of.

That's kind of what I thought, too.moblash wrote:There's some really fun stuff in there, but I do KIND OF wish I had some of your restraint - not sure I needed 45 minutes of Detroit auto horns blaring on disc 9 for instance...
Do tell about the Pinecone and Mystery Spot, though.
I'd always considered getting an electric pinecone from them, only $25. But I think I can get a contact mike from the surplus store for $3, so I never have ordered.
