I missed his second release completely, not reconnecting until Something/Anything? in '72. Side one of '73's A Wizard, a True Star is still in my listening rotation. It's just that bonkers and just that good.
Same
Added 'A Wizard A True Star Live' to rotation too

That’s good news. I agree with comments that not everything he did was particularly good but he was a wizard, a true star!
Personally i think the R&ROLL HOF is crap ( i mean the organization)..

I think what got my attention about Todd years ago was he was one of the first musicians who could play all the instruments, engineer, mix and produce his music.

Apparently, this was the reason the record company's put him on a list of producers that artist could use.

That got him a bunch of production gigs.

Like Daniel Lanois, being a musician AND producer was very appealing to artist since they had that musical dialog going on.

In both cases, the end results were very good.

Something/Anything from 72
3/4 of the double album written, played, & produced by him and the rest live in the studio with minimal overdubbing

True, and still one of his best releases.

Todd Rundgren.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Todd_Rundgren
In 2016, Rundgren told an interviewer: "It doesn't have the same cachet as a Nobel Peace Prize or some historical foundation. If I told you about how they actually determine who gets into the Hall of Fame, you'd think that I was bullshitting you, because I've been told what's involved. ... It's just as corrupt as anything else, and that's why I don't care."

What, "Do Ya"? That's written by Jeff Lynn, covered by Todd.

Yea I f**ked up there. Was under the impression he wrote it because the first place I ever heard it was from him way back when. Not a big ELO fan here

I would always blast this one along with 'Do Ya' because it was great pop rock that should have been way higher than 93 on the charts
Best intro of a pop rock tune too

For some reason, some are on a first-name basis with him :)
Doing nothing is only fun when you have something you are supposed to do.

Well, I hadn't heard of him, it's no big deal, especially as he seems to be us popular....

you could name me 50 us millionaire rappers from mtv cribs, I would not have a clue... or country stars.... not my bag.....

i was just curious as the OP assumed his first name would be enough for recognition

Post

Not unreasonable and it hadn't occurred to me because I knew who it was,or at least assumed I knew. I guess it's a thing among Rundgren fans to just call him Todd, which is also the name of another great double album he put out

Frank Zappa was deceased before getting the HoF nod, Chris Squire gone before Yes did. probably this figures in, yer not long for this world then, Todd.

I knew what 'Todd" referred to in the OP. far from obscure

Post

didn't even know FZ was dead....
