The new M-Tron Pro Streetly Tapes Vol.6 carries on the excellent legacy. Just when you think they can't eke out another library, a whole new set of tape banks arrives. Some nice stuff on the new one. I would agree the SFX isn't too usable, but more for completists only (like me):

If I were to buy this during the sale but not get the complete version, what tapes do you suggest?

I love the Mellotron strings and choirs on old prog sounds, but I confess that I loath the “Strawberry Fields” flute sound. It is just one of my personal idiosyncrasies. I am also not particularly interested in other woodwinds or brass sounds.

I follow Alex Ball on YT and want to get his tape set.

I have everything.

Streetly Tapes are uniformly good/interesting. I bought Alex Ball expansion but don't like it all that much yet.

These things grow on you.

I don't think I've put out a song without M-Tron on it.

The M400 came stock with either a Flute/M400 Violins/Cello frame or MkII Brass/M400 Violins/8 Choir frame. M-Tron Pro comes with stock M400 sounds...M400 Violins (EQ'd MkII Violins), MkII Flute, 8 Choir, Cello and several others. It doesn't come with MkII Combined Brass. The sound is OK. A step up would be to add any of the Streetly Tapes that have those sounds. The samples are the best you can get anywhere. I would get the first 3 volumes.

Indeed, thank you for the info!

Hmm, the "FORUM" code at JRR shop does not work with individual expansions. I think I'm going to get the M-Tron Pro + the first two tapes. I skimmed through the Alex Ball set and am going to pass for now. That is a lot of stuff to try already.

I use M-Tron Pro for my Mello needs. I have always been worried about licensing with other Mellotron libraries even though I would rather have all the MTP samples as kontakt instruments. If it comes down to it I can just re record them if I need to do anything screwy with them.

MTP does go on sale for half of on a pretty regular basis and then all the add ONS do as well. I'm sure there are many other options, but that's just the one I grabbed (when it was still just MTron) so I've stuck with it.

Preset browsing is a pain is the ass in these GForce sampled instruments. Especially if you have a lot of expansions. They would work far better in Kontakt.

Heh true.

I wish GForce offered a "complete your collection" option. I have all but two expansions.

All the original recordings (eg: MkII Violins, MkII Flute, Cello, etc.) are in the public domain if they were recorded from the output of a Mellotron. That's why there are so many sample sets on the market and for free. But samples of M-Tron Pro, Memotron and M4000D are not. The newer recordings from Streetly Electronics are also not in the public domain.

That's why I was always a bit wary.... X is prperly licensed Y isn't. I get by fine with Gforce's VST. I've resampled most of it into kontakt at this point for weirder stuff. Having the full engine to mangle those sounds is fun as hell.
