Soooo, waves has my license, I have my installation, and newer licenses activate old plugins. So how the hell do they not update my license automatically when a new version x.0 comes out that I have every right to even if I keep the older versions installed. It's up to me to watch for the update and manually update the license from 10-11 11-12 etc. That is a ridiculous setup. The new license always covers the old. Why can't they just say "this person has WUP and 12 is released we will change their license to V12 which will keep their old plugins working fine."
It really works that way and I'm generally not an early adopter so the chance that I'll install a brand new version immediately is almost zero. However if you don't manually update the license vis the website or WC, then you don't get the up to date license if you should decide to update the version you use.
I mostly have no issues with waves but I was blown away when they told me. I remember distinctly them telling me that there was a new version of my bundle that was a free update in the past. Now it's something I have to actively keep an eye on.
Anyhow, that's it
The guy who broke the bad news to me was nice and helped me with some other issues I had. I'm still a full version behind on like 90 plugins because I don't watch them like a hawk.

I find this annoying as well. I've missed out on this last update and I'm trying to decide whether to pay for the updates, upgrade to the "big bundle" or something. I dunno.

I'll give em my money on my next cpu build. It just seems that you license that they store on their cloud could and should be easily and automatically updated if your WUP is active. It would literally change nothing from the user side and could be fully automated from their side. I missed out on a few free plugins because of this, but whatever. They'll get my 250 eventually. I do use their stuff all the time. So whatever. I'm mostly mad that this isn't listed in bold print- "watch out for full version updates while your WUP is active because they aren't automatic". If that was there then I feel I would have nobody but myself to blame. I had to call someone to he sure that this is actually how it works.
Anyway. Still not mad at em too much. Especially now that they are constantly selling off at insane low prices. I spent a G on my first bundle.

I mainly just mean by "updates" more plugins added to my platinum bundle. Also aside from some of the v11 and plus stuff not working on my system (mostly by design) since I run win 7 they are the most stable guys around. Between waves and Melda I have at least 150 plugins (about 1:1) and outside of a beta none has been an issue. When I did have a problem they had a build that had me running again within 49 hrs.
I just wish that if you are enrolled in a window of time for full version updates (simple bug fixes are always included) that cost money to maintain, and the company has your info as to if you are eligible for the new full version update, and the company keeps track of your license from the account and the license mgr, they could simply push the v11, V12, V10 or whatever into said mgr so when you boot it next your updates "license" not "software" is just there. I'm still running everything at V10 except for things that only exist in v11. Because V10 is very happy on my system. I don't want them to force "software" updates, but paid for version "license" updates should just go through when they're available. Anyway that's all the energy I have for waves talk. I use tons of their stuff all the time because it takes like no CPU and I like their interfaces. Also any studio I wanna work with has them too.
This is the one issue I have and I could have figured it out had i been paying closer attention.

Maybe it's time Waves actually acknowledges and addresses the problem? IMHO there can never be enough posts about Waves WUP. It's an incredibly stupid system and I agree 100% with the original poster. The more noise there is about it's stupidity the more likely it is that vigilant new people are warned and will thus avoid all the headache.
Having to manually keep an eye on updating your plugins through the account as long as you have WUP running is incredibly stupid and extremely annoying. I actually used to put reminders in google calendar for my plugins so that I could check them before WUP runs out in case I've missed any major revision updates.
Luckily I don't really have to care any more as I'm done buying Waves plugins and all my WUP has run out.
Now that I switched to the latest Mac I haven't even installed any Waves plugins and will just disregard the whole company as a whole. Much less headache that way.

If I knew this before my first purchsae I'd never buy any of their plugins, sadly it wasn't the case. There are many companies that make you pay for
major updates for their plugins, what's the difference? There are companies whose plugins are NFR from the get-go, there are companies yhat charge $50 transfer fee per plug, and there are companies that expect you to buy a new plugin every time they add a single feature and decide to call it a new version.
Given that their plugins have generally good reputation, and most of the time they are pretty cheap (aside of the initial launching price, but we all know it gets cut by 80% after a few months), why is it so infuriating for people to pay for upgrades?
I have the Gold bundle i bought a decade ago, never renewed WUP and they are all working fine and were updated to VST3 regardless of the WUP.

- You pay for nothing which is unethical
- You have to pay WUP to resell the plugin which is based on the made up retail price (not sure how this is even legal)
- There are people like me that had no idea how it works
- You're stuck with tons of mixed versions and if you want to have one version for everything you have to WUP again
- You have a problem like the OP has which is a real thing
- For my account it's almost impossible to pick and "upgrade" to actually match WUP capped value and I can't even use third party retailers because they say "you have too many overlapping products"
Also most of the "new" versions mysteriosuly appear arround the time when Apple announces an upgrade to their system so it looks like they want to charge everybody just to make plugins work on newer Macs (which includes windows users like me unfortunately)
