Nemesis takes FM synthesis onto its next evolutionary step: NeoFM synthesis.
From a technical point of view, conventional 'FM synthesizers' actually use phase modulation to generate sound - but for historical marketing reasons they are advertised as 'FM synthesizers'. The traditional method, however, is limited to bell-like sounds and often produces an unpleasant, metallic sound.
Some analog synthesizers can do true FM. However, this suffers from the lack of precision of the oscillators, which creates an inharmonic sound that is not particularly useful musically.
The innovative NeoFM approach combines the advantages of both worlds without taking over the respective weaknesses. It is now easier than ever to get great sounding results.

.... doesn't explain it.
Yeah, I know Tone2 is legit but this sounds like those 'revolutionary plugins' that after all are doing nothing special.

neoFM is definitely not just a marketing term.

The manual explains it in detail:
https://www.tone2.com/manual.html

You can also directly hear the difference between 'classic FM/PM' and 'neoFM' in Nemesis.
Click on the Synthesis Mode selector. Then select 'neoFM' vs 'FM/PM Vintage DX'.

Amazona:
"Nemesis plays in the highest league. The versatile synthesis engine can replace a studio filled with hardware. All that with expensive, first-class sound quality. NeoFM sounds more balanced compared to classic FM."

Keys magazine:
"NeoFM provides a much larger sonic range than classic FM. It produces harmonic sounds where conventional synths provide only garbage. Tone2 succeeds in reinventing the FM synthesis. The sound cuts through the mix. It's very flexible, has a huge sonic range and a lot of dynamic expression."

neither of those explains what neofm is, perhaps you can?

I already answered to you in my post above. Please read this one properly.

1) Download the free demo
You can directly hear the difference between 'classic FM/PM' and 'neoFM' in Nemesis.
Click on the Synthesis Mode selector. Then select 'neoFM' vs 'FM/PM Vintage DX'.

2) Read the manual for a detailed explanation.

What is NeoFM synthesis?

From a technical point of view, conventional 'FM synthesizers' actually use phase modulation to generate sound - but for historical marketing reasons they are advertised as 'FM synthesizers'. The traditional method, however, is limited to bell-like sounds and often produces an unpleasant, metallic sound with aliasing.
Some analog synthesizers can do true FM. However, this suffers from the lack of precision of the oscillators, which creates an inharmonic sound that is not particularly useful musically.
The innovative NeoFM approach combines the advantages of both worlds without taking over the respective weaknesses.
NeoFM is more powerful and more easy to program than traditional FM. It offers superior sound quality. A warm and creamy signature-sound is generated by its engine.

again, none of that explains what it is....

you coded it, so you can explain the technical details of what neofm is..... can't you?

Post

... and traditional fm is def not limited to "bell like sounds"

Since when is any dev under any sort of obligation to explain the technical details of their products to anyone? If you're not satisfied with the (somewhat vague, I'll admit) explanation in the manual, then you can simply demo the product yourself, to decide if the benefits of NeoFM are apparent/significant to/for you. That would be a much better use of your time, rather trying to cause a stir here.
Always Read the Manual!

I agree pieberger as trying the demo would be the best option.

Looks cool. I may have to get a few more Tone2 synths if you guys release VST3's.

Oh still no VST3? I kindof took that for granted in such an update in 2021

Warlock is VST3, but none of the others. I am a bit surprised that a big update like a V2 wouldn't get a VST3 too.
