'musical' delay - is there such a thing?

There is also the zplane repitcher that does polyphonic almost real-time pitch shifting and is way smoother and easier than pitchmap. I still think the op would do best using a midi delay and then some scale quantizing on it's output. You can mimic feeding back through the repitching on each delay by chaining the delays after the repitching and then adding another quantizer and so on. I just fiddled around with this in cubase and you can get some interesting climbing or decending chord progressions by feeding it a simple root chord. I wish there were more cool midi plugins on the market. It always takes a while to make em from scratch.

do you mean Veilklang or reTune? I like Pitchmap a lot and haven't looked for other tools much at all. I have Zplane's Elastique Pitch V2 which is very good. (and Ircam's TS which is also good )

A crazy idea... Adaptiverb is supposed to ”adapt” to your musical content, thanks to resynthesis options uh ? What about using Adaptiverb and then a gater on it ? That would sound kinda like a delay after all ?

Jo - lots of good inspiration and creative solutions from you. Following the good old 'KISS' rule (keep it short & simple), I couldn't ignore the super sale for the Octavox in the boutique. The plugin provides me with exactly the requirements that I have formulated here & I couldn't have imagined the usability better. The tool is an audio processor and also combines all the benefits of the midi world; phatt I say. With more time behind me, I will take a closer look at all your suggestions - there are definitely some pearls (u-he e.g.). Thanks for the active & informative help!

I mean retune. It's pretty okay at poly retuning. Lots of combinations of settings in pitchmap just make fun noise. Repitch just does poly autotune and does it well.
