I think this took most of their time, honestly. I wouldn't be surprised if they follow up quickly with 4.1 and 4.2 that add those "missing" features like MIDI comping and Grid's MIDI out. And perhaps even an MSEGPieBerger wrote: Thu May 27, 2021 11:12 am...and offering M1 support ahead of it, was a smart move imo.

Certainly true, but man, look how crowded the midi editor get's with all those micro edits, lines and symbols on the notes. A bit over the top for me. Maybe it's different when you work with it than when you watch it on video.antic604 wrote: Thu May 27, 2021 10:44 am But probability stuff in Bitwig is 10x more advanced now than in Live, that only gives you note probability & velocity range. Operators + Expression Spread are HUGE![]()

It's a shame they put a lot of effort into this part of MIDI, but totally neglected MIDI with comping and the Grid.

Agree. I think native Apple Silicon took bulk of the dev time for v4, so I'm hoping they'll quickly follow up with 4.1 or 4.2 with those "missing" features.Rivanni wrote: Thu May 27, 2021 11:23 amIt's a shame they put a lot of effort into this part of MIDI, but totally neglected MIDI with comping and the Grid.

Native apple silicon support is much welcome.

Although it's not important to me, I'm satisfied that it's out of the way at least and they can focus on other stuff, which I share your optimism in believing will come soon.antic604 wrote: Thu May 27, 2021 11:17 amI think this took most of their time, honestly. Hmmm...just spent a few hours just with comping.
Its better than Live 11 and as good (maybe better) than Studio One for me- I predominantly use Studio One for the comping....however, currently limited audio editing/ no Melodyne so S1 probably safe...for now!
It is as we hoped Bitwig Style comping, fast, intuitive (no need for a manual) and lots of workflow features like drag comp take shorter to cut bits out (less cut and mute). Right-click any audio clip to 'Fold To Takes' its incredibly useful and fun, comp anything fast, you don't have to play an instrument to find this useful- any loops or clips, bounce some random stuff- comp it all together with drag and slide and make something new!
Anyway- that's the much needed comping covered superbly by Bitwig. Possibly best in class, definitely best in class if you want to comp in clips!!
Now on to Operators, probability and all that crazy Elektron style stuff!!

OK- Operators
Operators is by far the best implementation of repeats, retrigger (with ramp and velocity...) probability and triggering any events or notes I have ever seen in any hardware (I have A4 and RYTM) or software. Chance, repeat, occurrence and recurrence...ramp up, fill mode (real time manipulation for performance). Expression spread (not just chance/random on velocity, on anything!). Expand is a special sort of bounce, bounces with changing probabilities burnt in so you get unique tracks you could then comp!
Takes up no space (;-)) an can be used on linear events or clips...this is next level.

My update time is definitely going to expire before the final version is released. Sigh.

As well as the usual audio comping, you can fold any long audio into takes, add any random audio as a take and any of the individual events can use the new Operators and Randomization. That works for take slices and for any audio events in a clip! Very powerful audio editing capability.PieBerger wrote: Thu May 27, 2021 11:12 am I'm happy enough with audio comping and so will most people who need it for vocal and or instrument recordings. I don't do any recording but it's super useful for splicing together different lead variations etc, so it's a welcome feature. I'm a bit gutted they didn't add MIDI Grid, but keeping pace with Live on comping and operators and offering M1 support ahead of it, was a smart move imo.

ALS import works pretty well. I imported a fairly complex project and except for the Ableton devices everything is transferred even the crazy amount of returns I had setup in the project. It doesn't work for everything of course so if your Ableton project uses Drum Racks for example well that doesn't work. Overall It's a really nice feature. I haven't tried FLP yet.

The Fold to Takes is really fun...SLiC wrote: Thu May 27, 2021 1:07 pmRight-click any audio clip to 'Fold To Takes' its incredibly useful and fun, comp anything fast, you don't have to play an instrument to find this useful- any loops or clips, bounce some random stuff- comp it all together with drag and slide and make something new!

This is gonna be useful for me for recording audio from hardware gear!

One odd thing is that 3.3.8 and 3.3.9 is no longer available to download are they not going to release those?

There's probably going to be a 3.3.10 soon.apoclypse wrote: Thu May 27, 2021 2:56 pm One odd thing is that 3.3.8 and 3.3.9 is no longer available to download are they not going to release those?
